I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?

„Ştiu bine că este aşa. Şi cum ar putea omul să-şi scoată dreptate înaintea lui Dumnezeu?

“Truly I know that it is so: But how can a man be in the right before God?

If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

Dacă ar voi să se certe cu El, din o mie de lucruri n-ar putea să răspundă la unul singur.

If one wished to contend with him, one could not answer him once in a thousand times.

He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

A Lui este înţelepciunea şi atotputernicia: cine I s-ar putea împotrivi fără să fie pedepsit?

He is wise in heart and mighty in strength— who has hardened himself against him, and succeeded?—

Hegyeket mozdít el, és észre sem veszik, hogy ő fordítja meg őket haragjában.

A ki hegyeket mozdít tova, hogy észre se veszik, és megfordítja őket haragjában.

Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.

El mută deodată munţii şi-i răstoarnă în mânia Sa.

he who removes mountains, and they know it not, when he overturns them in his anger,

Kirázza helyéből a földet úgy, hogy oszlopai megrendülnek.

A ki kirengeti helyéből a földet, úgy hogy oszlopai megrepedeznek.

Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

Szól a napnak, és az nem kel föl, és lepecsételi a csillagokat.

A ki szól a napnak és az fel nem kél, és bepecsételi a csillagokat.

Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

Porunceşte soarelui, şi soarele nu mai răsare; şi ţine stelele sub pecetea Lui.

who commands the sun, and it does not rise; who seals up the stars;

Ő alkotta a Göncölszekeret, a Kaszáscsillagot, a Fiastyúkot és Dél rejtett csillagzatait.

A ki teremtette a gönczölszekeret, a kaszás csillagot és a fiastyúkot és a délnek titkos tárait.

Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

El a făcut Ursul mare, luceafărul de seară şi Raliţele şi stelele din ţinuturile de miazăzi.

who made the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the chambers of the south;

Nagy és kikutathatatlan dolgokat cselekszik, és megszámlálhatatlan csodát visz végbe.

A ki nagy dolgokat cselekszik megfoghatatlanul, és csudákat megszámlálhatatlanul.

Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

El face lucruri mari şi nepătrunse, minuni fără număr.

who does great things beyond searching out, and marvelous things beyond number.

Íme, elvonul mellettem, de nem látom; átmegy előttem, de nem veszem észre.

Ímé, elvonul mellettem, de nem látom, átmegy előttem, de nem veszem észre.

Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

Iată, El trece pe lângă mine, şi nu-L văd, Se duce şi nu-L zăresc.

Behold, he passes by me, and I see him not; he moves on, but I do not perceive him.

Íme, ha elragad valamit, ki akadályozza meg? Ki mondhatja neki: Mit cselekszel?

Ímé, ha elragad [valamit,] ki akadályozza meg; ki mondhatja néki: Mit cselekszel?

Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

Dacă apucă El, cine-L va opri? Cine-I va zice: „Ce faci?”

Behold, he snatches away; who can turn him back? Who will say to him, ‘What are you doing?’

Isten nem fordítja el a haragját, meghajolnak előtte Ráháb cinkosai is.

Ha az Isten el nem fordítja az ő haragját, alatta meghajolnak Ráháb czinkosai is.

If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

Dumnezeu nu-Şi întoarce mânia; sub El se pleacă toţi sprijinitorii mândriei.

“God will not turn back his anger; beneath him bowed the helpers of Rahab.

Hát én hogyan felelhetnék meg neki, hogyan találnék szavakat vele szemben?

Hogyan felelhetnék hát én meg ő néki, és lelhetnék vele szemben szavakat?

How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?

Şi eu, cum să-I răspund? Ce cuvinte să aleg?

How then can I answer him, choosing my words with him?

Ha igazam volna, akkor sem tudnék mit felelni; kegyelemért könyörögnék ítélőbírámhoz.

A ki, ha szinte igazam volna, sem felelhetnék néki; kegyelemért könyörögnék ítélő birámhoz.

Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

Chiar dacă aş avea dreptate, nu I-aş răspunde. Nu pot decât să mă rog Judecătorului.

Though I am in the right, I cannot answer him; I must appeal for mercy to my accuser.

Ha segítségül hívnám, és felelne is nekem, akkor sem hinném, hogy szavam fülébe jutott.

Ha segítségül hívnám és felelne is nékem, még sem hinném, hogy szavamat fülébe vevé;

If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

Şi chiar dacă m-ar asculta când Îl chem, tot n-aş putea crede că mi-a ascultat glasul;

If I summoned him and he answered me, I would not believe that he was listening to my voice.

Mert forgószélben rohan rám, és ok nélkül megsokasítja sebeimet.

A ki forgószélben rohan meg engem, és ok nélkül megsokasítja sebeimet.

For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

El, care mă izbeşte ca într-o furtună, care îmi înmulţeşte fără pricină rănile,

For he crushes me with a tempest and multiplies my wounds without cause;

Lélegzetet sem hagy vennem, hanem keserűséggel lakat jól.

Nem hagyna még lélekzetet se vennem, hanem keserűséggel lakatna jól.

He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

care nu mă lasă să răsuflu, mă satură de amărăciune.

he will not let me get my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

Ha erőpróbára kerülne sor? Íme, itt van. És ha törvénykezésre? Ki idézhetné be?

Ha erőre kerülne a dolog? Ímé, ő igen erős; és ha ítéletre? Ki tűzne ki én nékem napot?

If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

Să alerg la putere? El este Atotputernic. La dreptate? Cine mă va apăra?

If it is a contest of strength, behold, he is mighty! If it is a matter of justice, who can summon him?

Ha igaznak tartanám magamat, szám ítélne el engem; ha ártatlannak: bűnössé tenne engem.

Ha igaznak mondanám magamat, a szájam kárhoztatna engem; ha ártatlannak: bűnössé tenne engemet.

If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

Oricâtă dreptate aş avea, gura mea mă va osândi; şi oricât de nevinovat aş fi, El mă va arăta ca vinovat.

Though I am in the right, my own mouth would condemn me; though I am blameless, he would prove me perverse.

Ártatlan vagyok, nem törődöm lelkemmel, utálom az életemet.

Ártatlan vagyok, nem törődöm lelkemmel, útálom az életemet.

Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

Nevinovat! Sunt; dar nu ţin la viaţă, îmi dispreţuiesc viaţa.

I am blameless; I regard not myself; I loathe my life.

Mindegy! Azért hát azt mondom: elveszít ő ártatlant és gonoszt egyaránt!

Mindegy ez! Azért azt mondom: elveszít ő ártatlant és gonoszt!

This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

Ce-mi pasă la urma urmei? Căci, îndrăznesc s-o spun: El nimiceşte pe cel nevinovat ca şi pe cel vinovat.

It is all one; therefore I say, ‘He destroys both the blameless and the wicked.’

Ha ostorával hirtelen megöl, neveti az ártatlanok kétségbeesését.

Ha ostorával hirtelen megöl, neveti a bűntelenek megpróbáltatását.

If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

Şi dacă biciul ar pricinui măcar îndată moartea!… Dar El râde de încercările celui nevinovat.

When disaster brings sudden death, he mocks at the calamity of the innocent.

Ha gonosz kezébe jut az ország, elfedi a bírák arcát. Kitől van ez, ha nem tőle?

A föld a gonosz kezébe adatik, a ki az ő biráinak arczát elfedezi. Nem így van? Kicsoda hát ő?

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

Pământul este dat pe mâinile celui nelegiuit; El acoperă ochii judecătorilor; de nu El, apoi cine altul?

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; he covers the faces of its judges— if it is not he, who then is it?

Napjaim gyorsabbak a kengyelfutónál: elszaladnak, nem látnak semmi jót.

Napjaim gyorsabbak valának a kengyelfutónál: elfutának, nem láttak semmi jót.

Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

Zilele mele aleargă mai iuţi decât un alergător; fug fără să fi văzut fericirea;

“My days are swifter than a runner; they flee away; they see no good.

Elsuhannak, mint a nádcsónakok, vagy ahogyan a sas lecsap zsákmányára.

Ellebbentek, mint a gyorsan járó hajók, miként zsákmányára csap a keselyű.

They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.

trec ca şi corăbiile cele iuţi, ca vulturul care se repede asupra prăzii.

They go by like skiffs of reed, like an eagle swooping on the prey.

Ha azt mondom, nosza, elfelejtem panaszomat, és mosolyra derítem arcomat,

Ha azt mondom: Nosza elfelejtem panaszomat, felhagyok haragoskodásommal és vidám leszek:

If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:

Dacă zic: „Vreau să-mi uit suferinţele, să-mi las întristarea şi să fiu voios”,

If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and be of good cheer,’

borzongok sok fájdalmamtól. Tudom, hogy nem találsz ártatlannak engem.

Megborzadok az én mindenféle fájdalmamtól; tudom, hogy nem találsz bűntelennek engem.

I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

sunt îngrozit de toate durerile mele. Ştiu că nu mă vei scoate nevinovat.

I become afraid of all my suffering, for I know you will not hold me innocent.

Ha rossz ember vagyok, minek fárasszam magam hiába?

Rossz ember vagyok én! Minek fáraszszam hát magamat hiába?

If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?

Şi dacă voi fi judecat vinovat, pentru ce să mă mai trudesc degeaba?

I shall be condemned; why then do I labor in vain?

Ha hóban mosakodnék is meg, vagy szappannal mosnám meg kezem,

Ha hóvízzel mosakodom is meg, ha szappannal mosom is meg kezeimet:

If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;

Chiar dacă m-aş spăla cu zăpadă, chiar dacă mi-aş curăţa mâinile cu leşie,

If I wash myself with snow and cleanse my hands with lye,

akkor is a posványba mártanál, még ruháimat is utálnám.

Akkor is a posványba mártanál engem és az én ruháim is útálnának engem.

Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

Tu tot m-ai cufunda în mocirlă, de s-ar scârbi până şi hainele de mine!

yet you will plunge me into a pit, and my own clothes will abhor me.

Mert ő nem ember, mint én, akinek így felelhetnék: szálljunk perbe egymással!

Mert nem ember ő, mint én, hogy néki megfelelhetnék, [és] együtt pörbe állanánk.

For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

Căci El nu este un om ca mine, ca să-I pot răspunde şi să mergem împreună la judecată.

For he is not a man, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial together.

Nincs is köztünk döntőbíró, aki mindkettőnkre ráhelyezhetné kezét.

Nincs is közöttünk igazlátó, a ki kezét közbe vethesse kettőnk között!

Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

Nici nu este vreun mijlocitor între noi, care să-şi pună mâna peste noi amândoi.

There is no arbiter between us, who might lay his hand on us both.

Ha levenné rólam vesszejét, és rettentésével nem ijesztene engem,

Venné csak el rólam az ő veszszejét, és az ő rettentésével ne rettegtetne engem:

Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

Să-Şi tragă însă varga deasupra mea şi să nu mă mai tulbure spaima Lui.

Let him take his rod away from me, and let not dread of him terrify me.

akkor szólnék, és nem félnék tőle. De magamtól erre nem vagyok kész!

Akkor szólanék és nem félnék tőle: mert nem így vagyok én magammal!

Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.

Atunci voi vorbi şi nu mă voi teme de El. Altfel, nu sunt stăpân pe mine.

Then I would speak without fear of him, for I am not so in myself.
