Kinyílik, mint a virág, majd elhervad, és eltűnik, mint az árnyék, nincs maradása.

He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

Se naşte şi e tăiat ca o floare; fuge şi piere ca o umbră.

He comes out like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not.

Még az ilyenre is felnyitod a szemed, és engem is törvényed elé állítasz?

Még az ilyen ellen is felnyitod-é szemeidet, tennen magaddal törvénybe állítasz-é engem?

And doth thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?

Şi asupra lui ai Tu ochiul deschis! Şi pe mine mă tragi la judecată cu Tine!

And do you open your eyes on such a one and bring me into judgment with you?

Ki hozhat elő tisztát a tisztátalanból? Senki.

Ki adhat tisztát a tisztátalanból? Senki.

Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

Cum ar putea să iasă dintr-o fiinţă necurată un om curat? Nu poate să iasă niciunul.

Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? There is not one.

Mivel meghatároztad napjait, ismered hónapjainak számát, így határt szabtál neki, amelyet nem hághat át.

Nincsenek-é meghatározva napjai? Az ő hónapjainak számát te tudod; határt vetettél néki, a melyet nem hághat át.

Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

Vedd le róla tekinteted, hogy nyugalma legyen, és legyen annyi öröme, mint egy béresnek.

Fordulj el azért tőle, hogy nyugodalma legyen, hogy legyen napjában annyi öröme, mint egy béresnek.

Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.

întoarce-Ţi măcar privirile de la el şi dă-i răgaz, să aibă măcar bucuria pe care o are simbriaşul la sfârşitul zilei.

look away from him and leave him alone, that he may enjoy, like a hired hand, his day.

Még ha elvénül is a földben a gyökere, és ha elhal is a porban a csonkja,

Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

Când i-a îmbătrânit rădăcina în pământ, când îi piere trunchiul în ţărână,

Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stump die in the soil,

a víz nedvességétől kivirágzik, ágakat hajt, mint a csemete.

A víznek illatától kifakad, ágakat hajt, mint a csemete.

Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

De a férfi, ha meghal, elterül, az ember, ha kimúlik, hová lesz?

De ha a férfi meghal és elterül; ha az ember kimúlik, hol van ő?

But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

Dar omul când moare, rămâne întins; omul, când îşi dă sufletul, unde mai este?

But a man dies and is laid low; man breathes his last, and where is he?

Amint a víz elfogy a tóból, és a patak elapad, majd kiszárad,

Mint a víz kiapad a tóból, a patak elapad, kiszárad:

As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:

Cum pier apele din lacuri şi cum seacă şi se usucă râurile,

As waters fail from a lake and a river wastes away and dries up,

úgy az ember is lefekszik, és nem kel föl többet; az egek elmúltáig sem ébred föl, nem keltik fel álmából.

Úgy fekszik le az ember és nem kél fel; az egek elmúlásáig sem ébrednek, nem költetnek föl az ő álmukból.

So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

aşa se culcă şi omul şi nu se mai scoală; cât vor fi cerurile, nu se mai deşteaptă şi nu se mai scoală din somnul lui.

so a man lies down and rises not again; till the heavens are no more he will not awake or be roused out of his sleep.

Bárcsak a Seolban tartanál engem; addig rejtegetnél, amíg elmúlik haragod. Kiszabnád időmet, azután megemlékeznél rólam!

Vajha engem a holtak országában tartanál; rejtegetnél engemet addig, a míg elmúlik a te haragod; határt vetnél nékem, azután megemlékeznél rólam!

O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

Ah! de m-ai ascunde în Locuinţa morţilor, de m-ai acoperi până-Ţi va trece mânia şi de mi-ai rândui o vreme când Îţi vei aduce iarăşi aminte de mine!

Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would conceal me until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

Ha meghal az ember, vajon életre kel-e? Akkor nehéz szolgasorsom egész ideje alatt várnék, amíg eljönne számomra a változás.

Ha meghal az ember, vajjon feltámad-é? [Akkor] az én hadakozásom minden idejében reménylenék, míglen elkövetkeznék az én elváltozásom.

If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

Dacă omul odată mort ar putea să mai învie, aş mai trage nădejde în tot timpul suferinţelor mele, până mi se va schimba starea în care mă găsesc.

If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my service I would wait, till my renewal should come.

Szólítanál, és én felelnék neked, kívánkoznál kezed alkotása után.

Szólítanál és én felelnék néked, kivánkoznál a te kezednek alkotása után.

Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

Atunci m-ai chema, şi Ţi-aş răspunde, şi Ţi-ar fi dor de făptura mâinilor Tale.

You would call, and I would answer you; you would long for the work of your hands.

Akkor bizonnyal lépteimet is számlálgatnád, de nem tartanád számon vétkeimet.

De most számlálgatod az én lépéseimet, és nem nézed el az én vétkeimet!

For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?

Dar astăzi îmi numeri paşii, ai ochiul asupra păcatelor mele;

For then you would number my steps; you would not keep watch over my sin;

Gonoszságom lepecsételve, egy zsákban lenne, és elfedeznéd bűneimet.

My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.

Még a hegy is leomlik és pusztul, ahogy a szikla elmozdul a helyéről.

Még a hegy is szétomlik, ha eldől; a szikla is elmozdul helyéről;

And surely the mountains falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.

Cum se prăbuşeşte muntele şi piere, cum piere stânca din locul ei,

A köveket is elkoptatja a víz, a földet pedig elsodorja az ár; az ember reménységét is így teszed semmivé.

The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.

cum este mâncată piatra de ape şi cum este luat pământul de râu: aşa nimiceşti Tu nădejdea omului.

the waters wear away the stones; the torrents wash away the soil of the earth; so you destroy the hope of man.

Míg végül is győzelmet aratsz felette, és neki mennie kell. Elváltoztatod arcát, és úgy bocsátod el.

Hatalmaskodol rajta szüntelen és ő elmegy; megváltoztatván az arczát, úgy bocsátod el őt.

Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

Îl urmăreşti întruna, şi se duce; îi schimonoseşti faţa şi apoi îi dai drumul.

You prevail forever against him, and he passes; you change his countenance, and send him away.

Ha tisztesség éri is fiait, ő nem tud róla. Ha megszégyenülnek, nem veszi észre.

His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.

De ajung fiii lui la cinste, el nu ştie nimic; de sunt înjosiţi, habar n-are.

His sons come to honor, and he does not know it; they are brought low, and he perceives it not.

Teste csak önmaga fájdalmát érzi, és a lelke is magáért kesereg.

Csak őmagáért fáj még a teste, és a lelke is őmagáért kesereg.

But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.

Numai pentru el simte durere în trupul lui, numai pentru el simte întristare în sufletul lui.”

He feels only the pain of his own body, and he mourns only for himself.”
