For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

Dar ce soartă mi-a păstrat Dumnezeu de sus? Ce moştenire mi-a trimis Cel Atotputernic din ceruri?

What would be my portion from God above and my heritage from the Almighty on high?

Hát nem az istentelennek jár-e a romlás, és a gonosztevőnek a veszedelem?

Avagy nem az istentelent illeti-é romlás, és nem a gonosztevőt-é veszedelem?

Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

Pieirea nu-i oare pentru cel rău, şi nenorocirea pentru cei ce fac fărădelege?

Is not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for the workers of iniquity?

Hát nem látta útjaimat, és nem számolta meg lépéseimet?

Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

Ha csalárdan jártam, és lábam álnokságra sietett,

If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

igazsága mérlegével mérjen meg engem, és megtudja Isten, hogy feddhetetlen vagyok!

Az ő igazságának mérlegével mérjen meg engem, és megismeri Isten az én ártatlanságomat!

Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.

să mă cântărească Dumnezeu în cumpăna celor fără prihană şi-mi va vedea neprihănirea!

(Let me be weighed in a just balance, and let God know my integrity!)

Ha lépéseim letértek az útról, és ha szívem a szememet követte, vagy ha kezemhez szenny tapadt,

Ha az én lépésem letért az útról és az én lelkem követte szemeimet, vagy kezeimhez szenny tapadt:

If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

más egye meg, amit vetettem, és ami nekem sarjadt, gyökerestül tépjék ki!

Hadd vessek én és más egye meg, és tépjék ki az én maradékaimat gyökerestől!

Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

Ha szívem asszony után bomlott, és leselkedtem felebarátom ajtajánál,

If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

Olyan tűz volna ez, amely a pusztulás helyéig emésztene, és minden jövedelmemet gyökerestül kiirtaná.

Mert tűz volna ez, a mely pokolig emésztene, és minden jövedelmemet tövestől kiirtaná.

For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

un foc care mistuie până la nimicire şi care mi-ar fi prăpădit toată bogăţia.

for that would be a fire that consumes as far as Abaddon, and it would burn to the root all my increase.

Ha megtagadtam volna szolgám vagy szolgálóleányom igazát, amikor pert kezdtek ellenem,

Ha megvetettem volna igazát az én szolgámnak és szolgálómnak, mikor pert kezdtek ellenem:

If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

De aş fi nesocotit dreptul slugii sau slujnicei mele, când se certau cu mine,

“If I have rejected the cause of my manservant or my maidservant, when they brought a complaint against me,

mitévő lennék, ha fölkelne Isten? És ha meglátogatna, mit felelnék neki?

What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

Nem az alkotta-e őt is, aki engem alkotott anyám méhében; nem ugyanő formált-e bennünket anyánk ölében?

Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

Cel ce m-a făcut pe mine în pântecele mamei mele, nu l-a făcut şi pe el? Oare nu ne-a întocmit acelaşi Dumnezeu în pântecele mamei?

Ha megtagadtam a szegények kívánságát, és az özvegy szemét epedni engedtem;

Ha a szegények kivánságát megtagadtam, és az özvegy szemeit epedni engedtem;

If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

Dacă n-am dat săracilor ce-mi cereau, dacă am făcut să se topească de plâns ochii văduvei,

“If I have withheld anything that the poor desired, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

aki ifjúságom óta úgy nevelkedett nálam, mint saját apjánál, és gyermekségétől fogva vezettem;

Hiszen ifjúságom óta, mint atyánál nevekedett nálam, és anyámnak méhétől kezdve vezettem őt!

(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

ha elnéztem, hogy elvész a ruhátlan, és takaró nélkül van a szegény;

If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

dacă am văzut pe cel nenorocit ducând lipsă de haine, pe cel lipsit neavând învelitoare,

if I have seen anyone perish for lack of clothing, or the needy without covering,

ha nem áldott volna engem a dereka, mert megmelegedett juhaim gyapjával;

Hogyha nem áldottak engem az ő ágyékai, és az én juhaim gyapjából fel nem melegedett;

If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

fără ca inima lui să mă fi binecuvântat, fără să fi fost încălzit de lâna mieilor mei;

if his body has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep,

ha az árva ellen fölemeltem a kezem, mert láttam, hogy a kapuban engem támogatnak,

Ha az árva ellen kezemet felemeltem, mert láttam a kapuban az én segítségemet;

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

dacă am ridicat mâna împotriva orfanului, pentru că mă simţeam sprijinit de judecători;

if I have raised my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate,

akkor essék le vállam a lapockámról, és szakadjon le tőből a karom!

A lapoczkájáról essék ki a vállam, és a forgócsontról szakadjon le karom!

Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

atunci, să mi se dezlipească umărul de la încheietură, să-mi cadă braţul şi să se sfărâme!

then let my shoulder blade fall from my shoulder, and let my arm be broken from its socket.

Hiszen rettegtem Isten csapásától, és fensége előtt ilyet nem tehetek.

Hiszen [úgy] rettegtem Isten csapásától, és fensége előtt tehetetlen valék!

For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

Căci mă temeam de pedeapsa lui Dumnezeu şi nu puteam lucra astfel din pricina măreţiei Lui.

For I was in terror of calamity from God, and I could not have faced his majesty.

Ha reménységemet aranyba vetettem, és azt mondtam a színaranynak: „Ó, én bizodalmam!”;

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

Dacă mi-am pus încrederea în aur, dacă am zis aurului: „Tu eşti nădejdea mea;”

If I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

if I have rejoiced because my wealth was abundant or because my hand had found much,

And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my mouth has kissed my hand,

ez is bíró elé tartozó bűn volna, mert megtagadtam volna Istent odafönt!

Ez is biró elé tartozó bűn volna, mert ámítottam volna az Istent oda fent!

This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

şi aceasta este tot o fărădelege care trebuie pedepsită de judecători, căci m-aş fi lepădat de Dumnezeul cel de sus!

this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges, for I would have been false to God above.

Hát örültem én gyűlölőm nyomorúságán, és ujjongtam örömömben, hogy baj érte őt?

Ha örvendeztem az engem gyűlölőnek nyomorúságán, és ugráltam örömömben, hogy azt baj érte;

If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

Dacă m-am bucurat de nenorocirea vrăjmaşului meu, dacă am sărit de bucurie când l-a atins nenorocirea,

“If I have rejoiced at the ruin of him who hated me, or exulted when evil overtook him

Nem engedtem, hogy szám vétkezzék azzal, hogy átkot kérek valaki lelkére.

Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

eu, care n-am dat voie limbii mele să păcătuiască, să-i ceară moartea cu blestem;

(I have not let my mouth sin by asking for his life with a curse),

If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

if the men of my tent have not said, ‘Who is there that has not been filled with his meat?’

The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

Dacă petrecea străinul noaptea afară, dacă nu mi-aş fi deschis uşa să intre călătorul;

(the sojourner has not lodged in the street; I have opened my doors to the traveler),

bizony akkor tarthatnék a nagy tömegtől, rettegnem kellene a nemzetségek megvetésétől. Elnémulnék, és az ajtón sem lépnék ki.

Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

because I stood in great fear of the multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and did not go out of doors—

Ó, bárcsak volna valaki, aki meghallgatna engem! Íme, ez a végszóm: a Mindenható válaszoljon nekem, és írjon vádiratot ellenem az én vádlóm.

Oh, bárcsak volna valaki, a ki meghallgatna engem! Ímé, ez a végszóm: a Mindenható feleljen meg nékem; és írjon könyvet ellenem az én vádlóm.

Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

Oh! de aş găsi pe cineva să m-asculte! Iată apărarea mea, iscălită de mine: să-mi răspundă Cel Atotputernic! Cine-mi va da plângerea iscălită de potrivnicul meu?

Oh, that I had one to hear me! (Here is my signature! Let the Almighty answer me!) Oh, that I had the indictment written by my adversary!
