Vajon a bölcs felelhet-e légből kapott tudománnyal, és megtöltheti-e hasát keleti széllel?

Vajjon a bölcs felelhet-é [ilyen] szeles tudománynyal, és megtöltheti-é a hasát keleti széllel?

Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

„Se cade să dea înţeleptul ca răspuns înţelepciune deşartă? Sau să-şi umfle pieptul cu vânt de răsărit?

“Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

Érvelhet-e olyan beszéddel, amely nem használ, és olyan szavakkal, amelyek semmit sem érnek?

Vetekedvén oly beszéddel, a mely nem használ, és oly szavakkal, a melyekkel semmit sem segít.

Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?

Să se apere prin cuvinte care n-ajută la nimic şi prin cuvântări care nu slujesc la nimic?

Should he argue in unprofitable talk, or in words with which he can do no good?

Te már Isten félelmét is semmibe veszed, és kisebbíted az Isten előtti áhítatot!

Te már semmivé akarod tenni az [Isten] félelmét is; és megkevesbíted az Isten előtt való buzgólkodást is!

Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.

Tu nimiceşti chiar şi frica de Dumnezeu, nimiceşti orice simţire de evlavie faţă de Dumnezeu.

But you are doing away with the fear of God and hindering meditation before God.

Mert gonoszságod oktatja erre a szádat, és a csalárdak nyelvét választottad.

Mert gonoszságod oktatja a te szádat, és a csalárdok nyelvét választottad.

For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.

Nelegiuirea ta îţi cârmuieşte gura, şi împrumuţi vorbirea oamenilor vicleni.

For your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.

A te szád kárhoztat téged, nem én, és a te ajkaid vallanak ellened.

A te szád kárhoztat téged, nem én, és a te ajakaid bizonyítanak ellened.

Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.

Nu eu, ci gura ta te osândeşte, buzele tale mărturisesc împotriva ta.

Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; your own lips testify against you.

Talán te születtél embernek elsőként? Előbb jöttél világra, mint a halmok?

Te születtél-é az első embernek; elébb formáltattál-é, mint a halmok?

Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?

Tu eşti omul care s-a născut întâi? Te-ai născut tu înaintea dealurilor?

“Are you the first man who was born? Or were you brought forth before the hills?

Isten tanácsában hallgatóztál, és magadhoz ragadtad a bölcsességet?

Az Isten tanácsában hallgatóztál-é, és a bölcseséget magadhoz ragadtad-é?

Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?

Ai fost tu la sfaturile lui Dumnezeu; şi ai sorbit din ele înţelepciune pentru tine?

Have you listened in the council of God? And do you limit wisdom to yourself?

Mit tudsz te, amit mi nem tudunk, és mi olyanhoz értesz, ami nálunk nincs meg?

Mit tudsz te, a mit mi nem tudunk, és mit értesz olyat, a mi nálunk nem volna meg?

What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?

Ce ştii tu şi să nu ştim şi noi? Ce cunoştinţă ai tu pe care să n-o avem şi noi?

What do you know that we do not know? What do you understand that is not clear to us?

Ősz és agg is van közöttünk, idősebb apádnál.

Ősz is, agg is van közöttünk, jóval idősebb a te atyádnál.

With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.

Între noi sunt peri albi, bătrâni, oameni mai înziliţi decât tatăl tău.

Both the gray-haired and the aged are among us, older than your father.

Csekélység neked Isten vigasztalása, hozzád szóló szelíd beszéde?

Csekélységek-é előtted Istennek vigasztalásai, és a beszéd, a mely szeliden bánt veled?

Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?

Puţin lucru sunt mângâierile lui Dumnezeu pentru tine şi cuvintele care-ţi vorbesc atât de blând? …

Are the comforts of God too small for you, or the word that deals gently with you?

Hogyan ragadhatott így el a szíved, és miért villog a szemed,

Merre ragadt téged a szíved, és merre pillantottak a te szemeid?

Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,

Încotro te trage inima şi ce înseamnă această privire ţintă a ochilor tăi?

Why does your heart carry you away, and why do your eyes flash,

ahogy Isten ellen fordítod haragod, és ilyen szavakat ejtesz ki a szádon?

Hogy Isten ellen fordítod a te haragodat, és ilyen szavakat eresztesz ki a szádon?

That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?

Ce! împotriva lui Dumnezeu îţi îndrepţi tu mânia şi-ţi ies din gură cuvinte ca acestea:

that you turn your spirit against God and bring such words out of your mouth?

Miképpen lehetne tiszta a halandó, és hogyan lehetne igaz az asszonytól született?

Micsoda a halandó, hogy tiszta lehetne, és hogy igaz volna, a ki asszonytól születik?

What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

„Ce este omul, ca să fie curat? Şi poate cel născut din femeie să fie fără prihană?

What is man, that he can be pure? Or he who is born of a woman, that he can be righteous?

Íme, még szentjeiben sem bízhat, még az egek sem tiszták a szemében.

Ímé, még az ő szenteiben sem bízok, az egek sem tiszták az ő szemében:

Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

Dacă n-are încredere Dumnezeu nici în sfinţii Săi, dacă nici cerurile nu sunt curate înaintea Lui,

Behold, God puts no trust in his holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight;

Mennyivel kevésbé az utálatos és romlott ember, aki úgy nyeli a hamisságot, mint a vizet!

Mennyivel kevésbbé az útálatos és a megromlott ember, a ki úgy nyeli a hamisságot, mint a vizet?!

How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?

cu cât mai puţin fiinţa urâcioasă şi stricată – omul, care bea nelegiuirea ca apa!”?

how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks injustice like water!

Hallgass rám, elmondom neked! Úgy mondom el, ahogy láttam,

Elmondom néked, hallgass rám, és a mint láttam, úgy beszélem el;

I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;

Vreau să te învăţ, ascultă-mă! Voi istorisi ce am văzut,

“I will show you; hear me, and what I have seen I will declare

amit a bölcsek hirdettek, és nem titkolták el, ami az atyáktól való.

A mit a bölcsek is hirdettek, és nem titkoltak el, mint atyáiktól valót;

Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:

ce au arătat înţelepţii, ce au descoperit ei, auzind de la părinţii lor,

(what wise men have told, without hiding it from their fathers,

Egyedül ők kapták ezt a földet, és idegen nem járt közöttük.

A kiknek egyedül adatott vala a föld, és közöttük idegen nem megy vala.

Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.

Az istentelen gyötrődik egész életében, és az erőszakoskodó évei meg vannak számlálva.

Az istentelen kínozza önmagát egész életében, és az erőszakoskodó előtt is rejtve van az ő esztendeinek száma.

The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.

„Omul cel rău îşi duce în nelinişte toate zilele vieţii, toţi anii de care are parte cel nelegiuit.

The wicked man writhes in pain all his days, through all the years that are laid up for the ruthless.

Rémítő hangok vannak fülében, békesség idején tör rá a pusztító.

A félelem hangja [cseng] az ő füleiben; a békesség [ide]jén tör rá a pusztító!

A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

Ţipete de spaimă răsună la urechile lui: În mijlocul fericirii lui, pustiitorul se va arunca asupra lui.

Dreadful sounds are in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come upon him.

Nem hiszi, hogy kijut a sötétségből, mert kard hegye leselkedik rá.

Nem hiszi, hogy kijut a sötétségből, mert kard hegyére van ő kiszemelve.

He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.

El nu trage nădejde să scape de întuneric, vede sabia care-l ameninţă;

He does not believe that he will return out of darkness, and he is marked for the sword.

Kenyér után futkos, hogy hol találna. Tudja, hogy közel van hozzá a sötétség napja.

He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.

aleargă încoace şi încolo să caute pâine, ştie că-l aşteaptă ziua întunericului.

He wanders abroad for bread, saying, ‘Where is it?’ He knows that a day of darkness is ready at his hand;

Nyomorúság és rettegés ijeszti; és leveri őt, mint egy rohamra induló király.

Háborgatják őt a nyomorúság és rettegés; leverik őt, mint valami háborúra felkészült király.

Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

Necazul şi neliniştea îl înspăimântă şi se aruncă asupra lui ca un împărat gata de luptă.

distress and anguish terrify him; they prevail against him, like a king ready for battle.

Mert Isten ellen nyújtotta ki a kezét, és erősködött a Mindenhatóval szemben.

Mert az Isten ellen nyujtotta ki kezét, és erősködött a Mindenható ellen;

For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.

Căci a ridicat mâna împotriva lui Dumnezeu, s-a împotrivit Celui Atotputernic

Because he has stretched out his hand against God and defies the Almighty,

Nekifeszült nyakkal rohant ellene, vastag, domború pajzsai alatt.

[Kinyujtott] nyakkal rohant ellene, domború pajzsainak fellege alatt.

He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:

şi a avut îndrăzneala să se năpustească asupra Lui cu partea cea mai tare a scuturilor lui.

running stubbornly against him with a thickly bossed shield;

Mivel zsír fedi be az arcát, és háj rakódott a tomporára,

Mivel befedezte az arczát kövérséggel, és hájat borított tomporára;

Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.

Avea faţa acoperită cu grăsime, coapsele încărcate cu osânză

because he has covered his face with his fat and gathered fat upon his waist

lerombolt városokban telepedett le, lakatlan házakban, amelyek dűlőfélben vannak.

És lakozott elrombolt városokban; lakatlan házakban, a melyek dűlőfélben vannak:

And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.

şi locuia în cetăţi nimicite, în case părăsite, sortite să fie dărâmate.

and has lived in desolate cities, in houses that none should inhabit, which were ready to become heaps of ruins;

Nem gazdagodik meg, vagyona sem marad meg, jószága nem lepi el a földet.

Meg nem gazdagodik, vagyona meg nem marad, jószága nem lepi el a földet.

He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.

Nu se va mai îmbogăţi, averea nu-i va creşte, şi avuţia nu se va mai întinde pe pământ.

he will not be rich, and his wealth will not endure, nor will his possessions spread over the earth;

Nem menekül meg a sötétségtől, hajtásait láng perzseli, és Isten szájának leheletétől pusztul el.

Nem menekül meg a setétségtől, sarjadékát láng perzseli el, és szájának lehelletétől pusztul el.

He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

Nu va putea ieşi din întuneric, flacăra îi va arde mlădiţele, şi Dumnezeu îl va pierde cu suflarea gurii Lui.

he will not depart from darkness; the flame will dry up his shoots, and by the breath of his mouth he will depart.

Ne higgyen a hiábavalóságnak, mert magát csapja be, hisz hiábavalóság lesz a jutalma.

Ne higyjen a hívságnak, a ki megcsalatott, mert hívság lészen annak jutalma.

Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.

Dacă se încrede în rău, se înşală, căci răul îi va fi răsplata.

Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself, for emptiness will be his payment.

Ideje előtt bevégződik élete, és hajtása sem virágzik ki.

Nem idejében telik el [élete,] és az ága ki nem virágzik.

It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.

Ea va veni înainte de capătul zilelor lui, şi ramura lui nu va mai înverzi.

It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not be green.

Lehullatja az éretlen szemeket, mint a szőlővessző, és elhányja virágát, mint az olajfa.

Lehullatja, mint a szőlővessző az ő egresét, elhányja, mint az olajfa az ő virágát.

He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.

Va fi ca o viţă despuiată de roadele ei încă verzi, ca un măslin ale cărui flori au căzut.

He will shake off his unripe grape like the vine, and cast off his blossom like the olive tree.

Mert a képmutatók háza népe meddő, és tűz emészti meg a vesztegetéssel szerzett sátrakat.

Mert a képmutató házanépe meddő, és tűz emészti meg az ajándékból való sátrakat.

For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

Căci casa celui nelegiuit va ajunge stearpă, şi cortul omului stricat îl va mânca focul.

For the company of the godless is barren, and fire consumes the tents of bribery.

Bajt fogannak, álnokságot szülnek, és méhük csalárdságot érlel.

Nyomorúságot fogan, álnokságot szül, és az ő méhök csalárdságot érlel.

They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.

El zămisleşte răul şi naşte răul: în sânul lui coace roade care-l înşală.”

They conceive trouble and give birth to evil, and their womb prepares deceit.”
