Véget vet az ember a sötétségnek, és sorra átkutatja a legtávolabbi zugban és sűrű sötétségben levő köveket.

Határt vet [az ember] a setétségnek, és átkutatja egészen és végig a homálynak és a halál árnyékának kövét.

He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.

Omul pune capăt întunericului, cercetează, până în ţinuturile cele mai adânci, pietrele ascunse în negura şi în umbra morţii.

Man puts an end to darkness and searches out to the farthest limit the ore in gloom and deep darkness.

Aknát törnek távol a lakott helyektől; lábak által elfelejtett helyeken függnek és lengenek messze az emberektől.

Aknát tör távol a lakóktól: mintha lábukról is megfelejtkeznének, alámerülnek és lebegnek emberektől messze.

The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.

Sapă o fântână departe de locurile locuite; picioarele nu-i mai sunt de ajutor, stă atârnat şi se clatină, departe de locuinţele omeneşti.

He opens shafts in a valley away from where anyone lives; they are forgotten by travelers; they hang in the air, far away from mankind; they swing to and fro.

A föld, amelyből kenyér terem, alant olyan, mintha tűz formálta volna.

Van föld, a melyből kenyér terem, alant pedig fel van forgatva, mintegy tűz által;

As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.

Pământul, de unde iese pâinea, este răscolit înăuntrul lui ca de foc,

As for the earth, out of it comes bread, but underneath it is turned up as by fire.

He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

Opreşte curgerea apelor şi scoate la lumină ce este ascuns.

He dams up the streams so that they do not trickle, and the thing that is hidden he brings out to light.

But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?

Nem szerezhető meg színaranyért, árát ezüstben nem lehet kimérni.

It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.

It cannot be bought for gold, and silver cannot be weighed as its price.

Nem ér föl vele az arany és az üveg, aranyedényekért el nem cserélhető.

The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.

Gold and glass cannot equal it, nor can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.

Honnan jön tehát a bölcsesség, és hol van az értelem lelőhelye?

Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

De unde vine atunci înţelepciunea? Unde este locuinţa priceperii?

“From where, then, does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding?

Rejtve van az minden élő szeme elől, az ég madarai elől is el van fedve.

Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.

Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.

And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

And he said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”
