Fiam! Ha kezes lettél barátodért, kezedet adtad, és elkötelezted magadat másért:

My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

Fiule, dacă te-ai pus chezaş pentru aproapele tău, dacă te-ai prins pentru altul,

My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, have given your pledge for a stranger,

szád beszéde által estél tőrbe, szád beszéde fogott meg téged.

Szádnak beszédei által estél tőrbe, megfogattattál a te szádnak beszédivel.

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

dacă eşti legat prin făgăduinţa gurii tale, dacă eşti prins de cuvintele gurii tale,

if you are snared in the words of your mouth, caught in the words of your mouth,

Ezt tedd hát, fiam, hogy kimentsd magadat, mert felebarátod kezébe jutottál: eredj, alázd meg magadat, és ostromold felebarátodat.

Ezt míveld azért fiam, és mentsd ki magadat, mert a te felebarátodnak kezébe jutottál; eredj, alázd meg magadat, és kényszerítsd felebarátodat.

Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

fă totuşi lucrul acesta, fiule: dezleagă-te, căci ai căzut în mâna aproapelui tău! De aceea du-te, aruncă-te cu faţa la pământ şi stăruie de el.

then do this, my son, and save yourself, for you have come into the hand of your neighbor: go, hasten, and plead urgently with your neighbor.

Még álmot se engedj szemednek és szunnyadást szempilládnak.

Még álmot se engedj szemeidnek, se szunnyadást szemöldökidnek,

Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

Nu da somn ochilor tăi, nici aţipire pleoapelor tale!

Give your eyes no sleep and your eyelids no slumber;

Szabadítsd ki magadat, mint gazella a vadász kezéből, és mint madár a madarász kezéből.

Szabadítsd ki magadat, mint a zerge a [vadász] kezéből, és mint a madár a madarásznak kezéből.

Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Scapă din mâna lui cum scapă căprioara din mâna vânătorului şi ca pasărea din mâna păsărarului…

save yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Eredj a hangyához, te rest, figyeld meg útjait, és légy bölcs!

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

Du-te la furnică, leneşule; uită-te cu băgare de seamă la căile ei şi înţelepţeşte-te!

Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.

Bár nincs vezére, elöljárója vagy ura,

A kinek nincs vezére, igazgatója, vagy ura,

Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

Ea n-are nici căpetenie, nici priveghetor, nici stăpân;

Without having any chief, officer, or ruler,

nyáron mégis megszerzi kenyerét, aratáskor összegyűjti eledelét.

Nyárban szerzi meg az ő kenyerét, aratáskor gyűjti eledelét.

Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

totuşi îşi pregăteşte hrana vara şi strânge de ale mâncării în timpul secerişului.

she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.

Ó, te rest, meddig fekszel? Mikor kelsz föl álmodból?

Oh te rest, meddig fekszel? mikor kelsz fel a te álmodból?

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

Până când vei sta culcat, leneşule? Când te vei scula din somnul tău?

How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?

Még egy kis álom, még egy kis szunnyadás, még egy kis összetett kézzel való pihenés,

Még egy kis álom, még egy kis szunnyadás, még egy kis kéz-összefonás, hogy pihenjek;

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

Să mai dormi puţin, să mai aţipeşti puţin, să mai încrucişezi puţin mâinile ca să dormi!…

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest,

és meglep a szegénység, mint egy útonálló, és a szűkölködés, mint egy felvértezett férfi!

Így jő el, mint az útonjáró, a te szegénységed, és a te szűkölködésed, mint a paizsos férfiú!

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Şi sărăcia vine peste tine ca un hoţ, şi lipsa, ca un om înarmat.

and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.

Haszontalan ember, hamis férfi az, aki álnok szájjal jár.

Haszontalan ember, hamis férfiú, a ki álnok szájjal jár,

A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

Omul de nimic, omul nelegiuit, umblă cu neadevărul în gură,

A worthless person, a wicked man, goes about with crooked speech,

Aki kacsingat a szemével, lábával is üzen, és ujjával jelt ad.

A ki hunyorgat szemeivel; lábaival is szól, és ujjaival jelt ád.

He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

clipeşte din ochi, dă din picior şi face semne cu degetele.

winks with his eyes, signals with his feet, points with his finger,

Álnokság van a szívében, gonoszt forral minden időben, és háborúságot okoz.

Álnokság van az ő szívében, gonoszt forral minden időben, háborúságot indít.

Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

Răutatea este în inima lui, urzeşte lucruri rele întruna şi stârneşte certuri.

with perverted heart devises evil, continually sowing discord;

Ezért hirtelen jön rá a nyomorúság, hamar összeomlik, és nem lesz gyógyulása.

Annakokáért hirtelen eljő az ő nyomorúsága, gyorsan megrontatik, s nem lesz gyógyulása.

Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

De aceea nimicirea îi va veni pe neaşteptate; va fi zdrobit deodată şi fără leac.

therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly; in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

a kevély szemek, a hazug nyelv és az ártatlan vért ontó kezek,

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil,

a hazugságot szóló hamis tanú és az, aki háborúságot szít az atyafiak között.

A hazugságlehelő hamis tanú, és a ki szerez háborúságokat az atyafiak között!

A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

martorul mincinos, care spune minciuni, şi cel ce stârneşte certuri între fraţi.

a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

Őrizd meg, fiam, atyád parancsolatát, és anyád tanítását el ne hagyd!

Őrizd meg, fiam, atyád parancsolatját, és anyád tanítását el ne hagyd.

My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Fiule, păzeşte sfaturile tatălui tău şi nu lepăda învăţătura mamei tale:

My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching.

Kösd azokat szívedre mindenkor, fűzd azokat a nyakadba.

Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

Bárhova mész, vezéreljen téged, amikor alszol, őrizzen téged, mikor fölébredsz, beszélgessen veled.

Valahová mégysz, vezérel téged, mikor aluszol, őriz téged, mikor felserkensz, beszélget te veled.

When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

Ele te vor însoţi în mersul tău, te vor păzi în pat şi îţi vor vorbi la deşteptare!

When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you.

Mert lámpás a parancsolat, és világosság a tanítás, és az élet útja a tanító feddés,

Mert szövétnek a parancsolat, és a tudomány világosság, és életnek úta a tanító-feddések.

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Căci sfatul este o candelă, învăţătura este o lumină, iar îndemnul şi mustrarea sunt calea vieţii.

For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life,

amely megőriz téged a gonosz asszonytól és az idegen asszony hízelgő nyelvétől.

Hogy a gonosz asszonytól téged megőrizzenek, az idegen asszony nyelvének hizelkedésétől.

To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

Ele te vor feri de femeia stricată, de limba ademenitoare a celei străine.

to preserve you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress.

Ne kívánd meg szépségét szívedben, és meg ne fogjon téged szempilláival!

Ne kivánd az ő szépségét szivedben, és meg ne fogjon téged szemöldökeivel;

Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

N-o pofti în inima ta pentru frumuseţea ei şi nu te lăsa ademenit de pleoapele ei.

Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes;

Mert a parázna asszony miatt jut az ember egy darab kenyérre, és a férjes asszony drága életedre vadászik!

Mert a parázna asszony miatt [jut az ember] egy darab kenyérre, és [más] férfi felesége drága életet vadász!

For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

Căci pentru o femeie curvă, omul ajunge de nu mai rămâne decât cu o bucată de pâine, şi femeia măritată întinde o cursă unui suflet scump.

for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts down a precious life.

Vihet-e valaki tüzet a keblében úgy, hogy a ruhái meg ne égjenek?

Vehet-é valaki tüzet az ő kebelébe, hogy ruhái meg ne égnének?

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

Poate cineva să ia foc în sân, fără să i se aprindă hainele?

Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned?

Vagy járhat-e valaki parázson úgy, hogy lábát meg ne perzselje?

Vagy járhat-é valaki elevenszénen, hogy lábai meg ne égnének?

Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

Sau poate merge cineva pe cărbuni aprinşi, fără să-i ardă picioarele?

Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched?

Így van, aki bemegy felebarátja feleségéhez; nem marad büntetlen, aki érinti azt!

Így van, valaki bemegy felebarátjának feleségéhez, nem marad büntetlen, valaki illeti azt!

So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

Tot aşa este şi cu cel ce se duce la nevasta aproapelui său: oricine se atinge de ea nu va rămâne nepedepsit.

So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will go unpunished.

Nem vetik meg a tolvajt, ha éhségének csillapítása miatt lop.

Nem útálják meg a lopót, ha lop az ő kivánságának betöltésére, mikor éhezik;

Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

Hoţul nu este urgisit când fură ca să-şi potolească foamea, căci îi este foame;

People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his appetite when he is hungry,

De ha rajtakapják, hétszer annyit kell adnia, háza minden vagyonát is odaadhatja.

És ha rajta kapatik, hétannyit kell adnia, az ő házának minden marháját érette adhatja;

But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

şi dacă este prins, trebuie să dea înapoi înşeptit, să dea chiar tot ce are în casă.

but if he is caught, he will pay sevenfold; he will give all the goods of his house.

Aki pedig asszonnyal paráználkodik, az bolond. Magát akarja elveszíteni, aki ilyet cselekszik.

A ki pedig asszonynyal paráználkodik, bolond; a ki magát el akarja veszteni, az cselekszi ezt!

But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

Dar cel ce preacurveşte cu o femeie este un om fără minte, singur îşi pierde viaţa cine face aşa.

He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.

Vereséget szenved, és gyalázat éri, és szégyene letörölhetetlen.

Vereséget és gyalázatot nyer, és az ő gyalázatja el nem töröltetik.

A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

Nu va avea decât rană şi ruşine, şi ocara nu i se va şterge.

He will get wounds and dishonor, and his disgrace will not be wiped away.

Mert a féltékenység haragra gyújtja a férfit, és nem lesz kíméletes a bosszúállás napján.

Mert a féltékenység a férfiú haragja, és nem cselekszik kegyelmességgel a bosszúállásnak napján.

For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

Căci gelozia înfurie pe un bărbat, şi n-are milă în ziua răzbunării;

For jealousy makes a man furious, and he will not spare when he takes revenge.

Nem törődik semmilyen váltsággal, nem nyugszik meg, még ha nagyon sok ajándékot adsz is neki.

Nem gondol semmi váltsággal, nem nyugszik meg rajta, még ha nagy sok ajándékot adsz is néki.

He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

nu se uită la niciun preţ de răscumpărare şi nu se lasă înduplecat nici chiar de cel mai mare dar.

He will accept no compensation; he will refuse though you multiply gifts.
