Ne irigyeld a gonosztevőket, ne is kívánj velük lenni.

Ne irígykedjél a gonosztevőkre, se ne kivánj azokkal lenni.

Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

Nu pizmui pe oamenii cei răi şi nu dori să fii cu ei;

Be not envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them,

Mert pusztításon gondolkodik a szívük, és bántó szót szól az ajkuk.

Mert pusztítást gondol az ő szívök, és bajt szólnak az ő ajkaik.

For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

căci inima lor se gândeşte la prăpăd, şi buzele lor vorbesc nelegiuiri. –

for their hearts devise violence, and their lips talk of trouble.

Bölcsesség által épül a ház, és az értelem erősíti meg azt.

Bölcseség által építtetik a ház, és értelemmel erősíttetik meg.

Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:

Prin înţelepciune se înalţă o casă, şi prin pricepere se întăreşte;

By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;

Tudás által telnek meg a kamrák mindenféle drága és értékes javakkal.

És tudomány által telnek meg a kamarák minden drága és gyönyörűséges marhával.

And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

prin ştiinţă se umplu cămările ei de toate bunătăţile de preţ şi plăcute.

by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

A bölcs férfi erős, és a tudós ember nagy erejű.

A bölcs férfiú erős, és a tudós ember nagy erejű.

A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

Un om înţelept este plin de putere, şi cel priceput îşi oţeleşte vlaga.

A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might,

Okos vezetéssel nyerhetsz háborút, és a győzelemhez hozzásegít a sok tanácsadó.

Mert az eszes tanácsokkal viselhetsz hadat hasznodra; és a megmaradás a tanácsosok sokasága által van.

For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Căci prin măsuri chibzuite câştigi bătălia, şi prin marele număr al sfetnicilor ai biruinţa. –

for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.

Magas a bolondnak a bölcsesség, a kapuban nem nyitja ki száját.

Magas a bolondnak a bölcseség; a kapuban nem nyitja meg az ő száját.

Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

Înţelepciunea este prea înaltă pentru cel nebun: el nu va deschide gura la judecată. –

Wisdom is too high for a fool; in the gate he does not open his mouth.

Aki azon gondolkodik, hogy gonoszt cselekedjék, azt cselszövőnek hívják.

A ki azon gondolkodik, hogy gonoszt cselekedjék, azt cselszövőnek hívják.

He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

Cine se gândeşte să facă rău se cheamă un om plin de răutate. –

Whoever plans to do evil will be called a schemer.

A balga dolgok fontolgatása bűn, és az emberek utálják a rágalmazót.

A balgatag dolognak gondolása bűn; és a rágalmazó az ember előtt útálatos.

The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

Gândul celui nebun nu este decât păcat, şi batjocoritorul este o scârbă pentru oameni. –

The devising of folly is sin, and the scoffer is an abomination to mankind.

Ha lágyan viselted magad a nyomorúság idején, kevéske az erőd.

Ha lágyan viselted magadat a nyomorúságnak idején: szűk a te erőd.

If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

Dacă slăbeşti în ziua necazului, mică îţi este puterea. –

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.

Mentsd meg azokat, akiket a halálra visznek, és tartsd vissza azokat, akik a vesztőhelyre tántorognak.

Szabadítsd meg azokat, a kik a halálra vitetnek, és a kik a megöletésre tántorognak, tartóztasd meg!

If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;

Izbăveşte pe cei târâţi la moarte şi scapă pe cei ce sunt aproape să fie înjunghiaţi. –

Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.

Ha azt mondanád: „Íme, nem tudtunk erről”, aki a szíveket vizsgálja, az ismer, és aki a lelkedet őrzi, tudja, és megfizet mindenkinek cselekedetei szerint.

Ha azt mondanád: ímé, nem tudtuk ezt; nemde, a ki vizsgálja az elméket, ő érti, és a ki őrzi a te lelkedet, ő tudja? és kinek-kinek az ő cselekedetei szerint fizet.

If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

Dacă zici: „Ah! N-am ştiut!”… Crezi că nu vede Cel ce cântăreşte inimile şi Cel ce veghează asupra sufletului tău? Şi nu va răsplăti El fiecăruia după faptele lui? –

If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?

Egyél mézet, fiam, mert jó az, és a színméz édes az ínyednek.

Egyél, fiam, mézet, mert jó; és a színméz édes a te ínyednek.

My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:

Fiule, mănâncă miere, căci este bună, şi fagurele de miere este dulce pentru cerul gurii tale.

My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste.

Ilyen a bölcsesség lelkednek: ha megtalálod, akkor lesz jövendőd, és reménységed nem vész el.

Ilyennek ismerd a bölcseséget a te lelkedre nézve: ha azt megtalálod, akkor lesz jó véged, és a te reménységed el nem vész!

So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

Tot aşa, şi înţelepciunea este bună pentru sufletul tău: dacă o vei găsi, ai un viitor şi nu ţi se va tăia nădejdea. –

Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.

Ne leselkedjél, ó, istentelen, az igaz háza ellen, ne pusztítsd el nyugvóhelyét!

Ne leselkedjél, oh te istentelen, az igaznak háza ellen, ne pusztítsd el az ő ágyasházát!

Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:

Nu întinde curse, nelegiuitule, la locuinţa celui neprihănit şi nu-i tulbura odihna.

Lie not in wait as a wicked man against the dwelling of the righteous; do no violence to his home;

Mert ha hétszer elesik is az igaz, akkor is fölkel, az istentelenek pedig egy nyavalyájuk miatt is elvesznek.

Mert ha hétszer elesik is az igaz, ugyan felkél azért; az istentelenek pedig [csak egy] nyavalyával is elvesznek.

For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

Căci cel neprihănit de şapte ori cade, şi se ridică, dar cei răi se prăbuşesc în nenorocire.

for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.

Ne örülj, amikor ellenséged elesik, és ne vigadjon szíved, amikor megbotlik,

Mikor elesik a te ellenséged: ne örülj; és mikor megütközik: ne vígadjon a te szíved,

Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

Nu te bucura de căderea vrăjmaşului tău şi să nu ţi se înveselească inima când se poticneşte el,

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles,

nehogy az ÚR meglássa és rosszallja, és elfordítsa haragját róla.

Hogy az Úr meg ne lássa és gonosz ne legyen szemeiben, és el ne fordítsa arról az ő haragját [te reád.]

Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

ca nu cumva Domnul să vadă, să nu-I placă şi să-Şi întoarcă mânia de la el. –

lest the LORD see it and be displeased, and turn away his anger from him.

Ne bosszankodjál a gonosztevők miatt, és ne irigykedjél az istentelenekre.

Ne gerjedj haragra a gonosztevők ellen, ne irígykedjél az istentelenekre;

Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:

Nu te mânia din pricina celor ce fac rău şi nu pizmui pe cei răi!

Fret not yourself because of evildoers, and be not envious of the wicked,

Mert nem lesz jó vége a gonosznak, és az istentelenek lámpása kialszik.

Mert a gonosznak nem lesz [jó] vége, az istentelenek szövétneke kialszik.

For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

Căci cel ce face răul n-are niciun viitor, şi lumina celor răi se stinge. –

for the evil man has no future; the lamp of the wicked will be put out.

Féljed, fiam, az URat és a királyt, ne kerülj a pártütők közé.

Féld az Urat, fiam, és a királyt; a pártütők közé ne elegyedjél.

My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:

Fiule, teme-te de Domnul şi de împăratul; şi să nu te amesteci cu cei neastâmpăraţi!

My son, fear the LORD and the king, and do not join with those who do otherwise,

Mert hirtelen nyomorúság éri őket, és ki tudja, e kettőtől milyen büntetés vár rájuk.

Mert hirtelenséggel feltámad az ő nyomorúságok, és e két rendbeliek büntetését ki tudja?

For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

Căci deodată le va veni pieirea, şi cine poate şti sfârşitul amândurora! –

for disaster will arise suddenly from them, and who knows the ruin that will come from them both?

Ezek is a bölcsek szavai. Nem jó személyválogatónak lenni az ítéletben.

Ezek is a bölcsek [szavai.] Személyt válogatni az ítéletben nem jó.

These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

Iată ce mai spun înţelepţii: „Nu este bine să ai în vedere faţa oamenilor în judecăţi.” –

These also are sayings of the wise. Partiality in judging is not good.

Aki azt mondja az istentelennek: „igaz vagy”, azt átkozzák a népek, és megutálják a nemzetek.

A ki azt mondja az istentelennek: igaz vagy, ezt megátkozzák a népek, megútálják a nemzetek.

He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:

Pe cine zice celui rău: „Tu eşti bun!” îl blestemă popoarele şi-l urăsc neamurile.

Whoever says to the wicked, “You are in the right,” will be cursed by peoples, abhorred by nations,

Akik pedig megbüntetik a bűnöst, azoknak javára válik ez, és áldás száll rájuk!

A kik pedig megfeddik [a bűnöst,] azoknak gyönyörűségökre lesz, és jó áldás száll reájok!

But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

Dar celor ce judecă drept le merge bine, şi o mare binecuvântare vine peste ei. –

but those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, and a good blessing will come upon them.

Ajkakat csókolgat az, aki igaz beszédekkel felel.

Ajkakat csókolgat az, a ki igaz beszédeket felel.

Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.

Un răspuns bun este ca un sărut pe buze.

Whoever gives an honest answer kisses the lips.

Intézd el kinti tennivalóidat, és végezd el munkádat a mezőn, azután építsd házadat.

Szerezd el kivül a te dolgodat, és készíts elő a te meződben; annakutána építsd a házadat.

Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

Vezi-ţi întâi de treburi afară, îngrijeşte de lucrul câmpului, şi apoi apucă-te să-ţi zideşti casa. –

Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house.

Ne tanúskodj ok nélkül felebarátod ellen, ne ámíts senkit ajkaddal!

Ne légy bizonyság ok nélkül a te felebarátod ellen; avagy ámítanál-é [valakit] a te ajkaiddal?

Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.

Nu vorbi în chip uşuratic împotriva aproapelui tău; ori ai vrea să înşeli cu buzele tale? –

Be not a witness against your neighbor without cause, and do not deceive with your lips.

Ne mondd ezt: ahogy ő tett velem, én is úgy teszek vele, megfizetek mindenkinek cselekedete szerint.

Ne mondd ezt: a miképen cselekedett én velem, úgy cselekszem ő vele; megfizetek az embernek az ő cselekedete szerint.

Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

Nu zice: „Cum mi-a făcut el aşa am să-i fac şi eu, îi voi răsplăti după faptele lui!” –

Do not say, “I will do to him as he has done to me; I will pay the man back for what he has done.”

Elhaladtam a lusta ember mezeje mellett, és az esztelen szőlője mellett,

A rest embernek mezejénél elmenék, és az esztelennek szőleje mellett.

I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

Am trecut pe lângă ogorul unui leneş şi pe lângă via unui om fără minte.

I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man lacking sense,

és íme, mindenütt fölverte a tövis, színét elfedte a gyom, és kőkerítése leomlott.

És ímé, mindenütt felverte a tövis, és színét elfedte a gyom; és kőgyepüje elromlott vala.

And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

Şi era numai spini, acoperit de mărăcini, şi zidul de piatră era prăbuşit.

and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

Mikor ezt láttam, elgondolkodtam, és erre nézve ezt a tanulságot vontam le:

Melyet én látván gondolkodám, és nézvén, [ezt] a tanulságot vevém abból:

Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

M-am uitat bine şi cu luare aminte, şi am tras învăţătură din ce am văzut.

Then I saw and considered it; I looked and received instruction.

egy kis álom, egy kis szunnyadás, egy kis összetett kézzel heverés,

Egy kis álom, egy kis szunynyadás, egy kis kézösszetevés az alvásra,

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

„Să mai dorm puţin, să mai aţipesc puţin, să mai încrucişez mâinile puţin ca să mă odihnesc!”…

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest,

és így jön el szegénységed, mint az útonálló, és ínséged, mint a felvértezett férfi.

És így jő el, mint az útonjáró, a te szegénységed, és a te szükséged, mint a paizsos férfiú.

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

Şi sărăcia vine peste tine pe neaşteptate, ca un hoţ, şi lipsa, ca un om înarmat.

and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.
