Agurnak, a Jáké fiának beszédei, próféczia, melyet mondott a férfiú Itielnek, Itielnek és Ukálnak.

The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,

Cuvintele lui Agur, fiul lui Iache. Cuvintele înţelepte rostite de omul acesta pentru Itiel, pentru Itiel şi pentru Ucal.

The words of Agur son of Jakeh. The oracle. The man declares, I am weary, O God; I am weary, O God, and worn out.

Minden embernél tudatlanabb vagyok, és nincs bennem emberi értelem.

Minden embernél tudatlanabb vagyok én, és nincs emberi értelem én bennem.

Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.

Negreşit, sunt mai prost decât oricine şi n-am pricepere de om.

Surely I am too stupid to be a man. I have not the understanding of a man.

Nem tanultam bölcsességet, de a Szent tudományát ismerem.

És nem tanultam a bölcseséget, hogy a Szentnek ismeretét tudnám.

I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.

N-am învăţat înţelepciunea şi nu cunosc ştiinţa sfinţilor.

I have not learned wisdom, nor have I knowledge of the Holy One.

Ki ment föl az égbe, és ki szállt le onnan? Ki fogta össze markába a szelet? Ki kötötte köntösébe a vizet? Ki szabta meg a föld minden határát? Tudod-e, mi a neve, és mi a fiának neve?

Kicsoda ment fel az égbe, hogy onnan leszállott volna? Kicsoda fogta össze a szelet az ő markába? Kicsoda kötötte a vizet az ő köntösébe? Ki állapította meg a földnek minden határit? Kicsoda ennek neve? Avagy kicsoda ennek fiának neve, ha tudod?

Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

Cine s-a suit la ceruri şi cine s-a coborât din ele? Cine a adunat vântul în pumnii lui? Cine a strâns apele în haina lui? Cine a hotărât toate marginile pământului? Cum se numeşte el şi cum cheamă pe fiul său? Ştii tu lucrul acesta? –

Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name? Surely you know!

Istennek minden beszéde igen tiszta, és pajzsa ő a hozzá folyamodóknak.

Az Istennek teljes beszéde igen tiszta, és paizs az ahhoz folyamodóknak.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Orice cuvânt al lui Dumnezeu este încercat. El este un scut pentru cei ce se încred în El.

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Ne tégy hozzá beszédéhez, hogy meg ne feddjen téged, és hazuggá ne légy.

Ne tégy az ő beszédéhez; hogy meg ne feddjen téged, és hazug ne légy.

Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

N-adăuga nimic la cuvintele Lui, ca să nu te pedepsească şi să fii găsit mincinos. –

Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

Két dolgot kérek tőled, mielőtt meghalok, ne tagadd meg tőlem!

Kettőt kérek tőled; ne tartsd meg én tőlem, mielőtt meghalnék.

Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

Două lucruri Îţi cer; nu mi le opri înainte de moarte!

Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die:

A hiábavaló és hazug beszédet messze távolítsd tőlem. Se szegénységet, se gazdagságot ne adj nekem: táplálj engem hozzám illő eledellel,

A hiábavalóságot és a hazugságot messze távoztasd tőlem; szegénységet vagy gazdagságot ne adj nékem; táplálj engem hozzám illendő eledellel.

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

Depărtează de la mine neadevărul şi cuvântul mincinos; nu-mi da nici sărăcie, nici bogăţie, dă-mi pâinea care-mi trebuie.

Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me,

hogy megelégedve meg ne tagadjalak, és azt ne mondjam: kicsoda az ÚR? Szegénységre se hagyj jutnom, hogy ne lopjak, és meg ne vessem Istenem nevét!

Hogy megelégedvén, meg ne tagadjalak, és azt ne mondjam: kicsoda az Úr? Se pedig megszegényedvén, ne lopjak, és gonoszul ne éljek az én Istenem nevével!

Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

Ca nu cumva, în belşug, să mă lepăd de Tine şi să zic: „Cine este Domnul?” Sau ca nu cumva, în sărăcie, să fur şi să iau în deşert Numele Dumnezeului meu. –

lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the LORD?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.

Ne rágalmazd a szolgát az ura előtt, hogy meg ne átkozzon, és bűnhődnöd ne kelljen.

Ne rágalmazd a szolgát az ő uránál, hogy meg ne átkozzon téged, és bűnhődnöd ne kelljen.

Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

Nu cleveti pe un slujitor la stăpânul lui, ca să nu te blesteme şi să te faci vinovat. –

Do not slander a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.

Van olyan népség, amelyik átkozza apját, és anyját sem áldja.

[Van oly] nemzetség, a ki az ő atyját átkozza, és az ő anyját nem áldja.

There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

Este un neam de oameni care blestemă pe tatăl său şi nu binecuvântă pe mama sa.

There are those who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers.

Van olyan népség, amely tisztának tartja magát, pedig rútságából nem tisztult meg.

[Van] nemzetség, a ki a maga szemei előtt tiszta, pedig az ő rútságából ki nem tisztíttatott.

There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

Este un neam de oameni care se crede curat şi totuşi nu este spălat de întinăciunea lui.

There are those who are clean in their own eyes but are not washed of their filth.

Van olyan népség, amely kevély szemű, és tekintetét magasra emeli!

[Van] kevély szemű nemzetség, és a kinek szemöldökei igen fellátnak!

There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

Este un neam de oameni ai căror ochi sunt trufaşi şi care îşi ţin pleoapele sus.

There are those—how lofty are their eyes, how high their eyelids lift!

Van olyan népség, amelyiknek fogai fegyverek, és amelynek zápfogai kések, hogy fölfalják a szegényeket e földről, és a szűkölködőket az emberek közül.

[Van] olyan nemzetség, a kinek fogai fegyverek, és a kinek zápfogai kések; hogy a szegényeket kiemészszék e földről, és az emberek közül a szűkölködőket.

There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

Este un neam de oameni ai căror dinţi sunt nişte săbii şi ale căror măsele sunt nişte cuţite, ca să mănânce pe cel nenorocit de pe pământ şi pe cei lipsiţi dintre oameni. –

There are those whose teeth are swords, whose fangs are knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, the needy from among mankind.

Két lánya van a piócának: add ide, add ide! Ez a három nem lakik jól, sőt négyen nem mondják, hogy elég:

A nadálynak két leánya van: addsza, addsza! E három nem elégszik meg; négyen nem mondják: elég;

The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:

Lipitoarea are două fete: „Dă! Dă!” Trei lucruri sunt nesăţioase, patru lucruri nu zic niciodată: „Destul!”

The leech has two daughters: Give and Give. Three things are never satisfied; four never say, “Enough”:

a sír és a meddő asszony, a föld, mely nem telik meg vízzel, és a tűz, amely sosem mondja: elég!

A sír és a meddő asszony, a föld meg nem elégszik a vízzel, és a tűz nem mondja: elég!

The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.

şi anume: Locuinţa morţilor, femeia stearpă, pământul, care nu este sătul de apă, şi focul, care nu zice niciodată: „Destul!” –

Sheol, the barren womb, the land never satisfied with water, and the fire that never says, “Enough.”

Aki kicsúfolja apját, vagy megelégeli az anyja iránti engedelmességet, annak szemét kivájják a völgyben lévő hollók, és megeszik a sasfiókák.

A szemet, mely megcsúfolja atyját, vagy megútálja az anyja iránt való engedelmességet, kivágják a völgynek hollói, vagy megeszik a sasfiak.

The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

Pe ochiul care îşi bate joc de tatăl său şi nesocoteşte ascultarea de mamă, îl vor scobi corbii de la pârâu şi îl vor mânca puii de vultur. –

The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.

a sas útját az égben, a kígyó útját a kősziklán, a hajó útját a mély tengeren és a férfi útját a leánnyal.

A keselyűnek útát az égben, a kígyónak útát a kősziklán, a hajónak nyomát a mély tengerben, és a férfiúnak útát a leányzóval.

The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.

urma vulturului pe cer, urma şarpelui pe stâncă, urma corăbiei în mijlocul mării şi urma omului la o fată.

the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship on the high seas, and the way of a man with a virgin.

Ilyen a parázna asszony útja: eszik, azután megtörli száját, és azt mondja: „Nem tettem semmi rosszat.”

Ilyen a paráználkodó asszonynak úta; eszik, azután megtörli száját és azt mondja: nem cselekedtem semmi gonoszt.

Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

Tot aşa este şi calea femeii preacurve: ea mănâncă şi se şterge la gură, şi apoi zice: „N-am făcut nimic rău.” –

This is the way of an adulteress: she eats and wipes her mouth and says, “I have done no wrong.”

Három dolog miatt rendül meg a föld, és négyet nem szenvedhet el:

Három [dolog] alatt indul meg a föld, és négyet nem szenvedhet el.

For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:

Trei lucruri fac să se răscoale o ţară şi patru lucruri nu le poate suferi:

Under three things the earth trembles; under four it cannot bear up:

a szolgát, ha uralkodik, a bolondot, mikor jóllakik kenyérrel,

A szolga alatt, mikor uralkodik, és a bolond alatt, mikor elég kenyere van,

For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;

un rob care a început să împărăţească, un nebun care are pâine din belşug,

a slave when he becomes king, and a fool when he is filled with food;

a gyűlölt asszonyt, ha mégis férjhez megy, és a szolgálót, ha asszonya örököse lesz.

A gyűlölt asszony alatt, ha [mégis] férjhez megy; és a szolgáló alatt, ha örököse lesz az ő asszonyának.

For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.

o femeie dispreţuită care se mărită şi o roabă care moşteneşte pe stăpâna sa. –

an unloved woman when she gets a husband, and a maidservant when she displaces her mistress.

Van négy apró állat a földön, amelyek mégis nagyon bölcsek:

There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:

Four things on earth are small, but they are exceedingly wise:

a hangyák népe erőtlen, mégis megkeresik nyáron a maguk táplálékát;

A hangyák erőtlen nép, mégis megkeresik nyárban a magok eledelét;

The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;

furnicile, care nu sunt un popor tare, dar îşi pregătesc hrana vara,

the ants are a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer;

a mormoták népe nem hatalmas, mégis kősziklára építik házukat;

A marmoták nem hatalmas nép, mégis kősziklán csinálják az ő házokat;

The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;

şoarecii de munte, care nu sunt un popor puternic, dar îşi aşază locuinţa în stânci;

the rock badgers are a people not mighty, yet they make their homes in the cliffs;

a sáskáknak nincs királyuk, mégis mindnyájan szép rendben vonulnak ki;

Királyuk nincs a sáskáknak, mindazáltal mindnyájan szép renddel mennek ki;

The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;

A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;

A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.

the strutting rooster, the he-goat, and a king whose army is with him.

Ha olyan bolond voltál, hogy fölfuvalkodtál, vagy gonoszt terveztél, tedd szádra a kezedet.

Ha bolond voltál felfuvalkodásodban, vagy ha meggondoltad: kezedet szájadra vessed.

If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

Dacă mândria te împinge la fapte de nebunie şi dacă ai gânduri rele, pune mâna la gură:

If you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth.

Mert aki tejet köpül, vajat csinál; és aki erősen fújja ki az orrát, vért hoz ki belőle; aki pedig haragot szít, az viszályt kelt.

Mert [miképen] a ki tejet köpül, vajat csinál; és a ki keményen fújja ki az ő orrát, vért hoz ki: [úgy] a ki a haragot ingerli, háborúságot szerez.

Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

căci baterea laptelui dă smântână, scărpinarea nasului dă sânge, şi stoarcerea mâniei dă certuri.

For pressing milk produces curds, pressing the nose produces blood, and pressing anger produces strife.
