A bölcs fiú enged apja intésének, de a csúfoló nem ad helyt a dorgálásnak.

A bölcs fiú [enged] atyja intésének; de a csúfoló semmi dorgálásnak helyt nem ád.

A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

Un fiu înţelept ascultă învăţătura tatălui său, dar batjocoritorul n-ascultă mustrarea. –

A wise son hears his father’s instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

Szájának gyümölcséből lakik jól az ember, a hitetlen pedig erőszakért kiált.

A férfi az ő szájának gyümölcséből él jóval; a hitetlenek lelke pedig bosszúságtétellel.

A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

Prin rodul gurii ai parte de bine, dar cei stricaţi au parte de silnicie. –

From the fruit of his mouth a man eats what is good, but the desire of the treacherous is for violence.

Aki féken tartja száját, megtartja önmagát; aki nagyra nyitja száját, romlására lesz az annak.

A ki megőrzi az ő száját, megtartja önmagát; a ki felnyitja száját, romlása az annak.

He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

Cine-şi păzeşte gura, îşi păzeşte sufletul; cine-şi deschide buzele mari aleargă spre pieirea lui. –

Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

A rest lelkében kívánság támad, de hiába, a szorgalmasok lelke azonban bővölködik.

Kivánsággal felindul, de hiába, a restnek lelke; a gyorsak lelke pedig megkövéredik.

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

Leneşul doreşte mult, şi totuşi, n-are nimic, dar cei harnici se satură. –

The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

A hamis beszédet gyűlöli az igaz, az istentelen pedig mocskol és gyaláz.

A hamis dolgot gyűlöli az igaz; az istentelen pedig gyűlölségessé tesz és megszégyenít.

A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

Cel neprihănit urăşte cuvintele mincinoase, dar cel rău se face urât şi se acoperă de ruşine. –

The righteous hates falsehood, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace.

Az igazság megőrzi azt, aki útjában feddhetetlen, az istentelenség pedig elveszíti a bűnöst.

Az igazság megőrzi azt, a ki útjában tökéletes; az istentelenség pedig elveszíti a bűnöst.

Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

Neprihănirea păzeşte pe cel nevinovat, dar răutatea aduce pierzarea păcătosului. –

Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless, but sin overthrows the wicked.

Van, aki gazdagnak mutatja magát, holott semmije sincsen, más pedig szegénynek tetteti magát, holott nagy vagyona van.

Van, a ki hányja gazdagságát, holott semmije sincsen; viszont tetteti magát szegénynek, holott sok marhája van.

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

Unul face pe bogatul, şi n-are nimic, altul face pe săracul, şi are totuşi mari avuţii. –

One pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.

Az ember életének váltsága lehet gazdagsága, de a szegény nem hall fenyegetést.

Az ember életének váltsága lehet az ő gazdagsága; a szegény pedig nem hallja a fenyegetést.

The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

Omul cu bogăţia lui îşi răscumpără viaţa, dar săracul n-ascultă mustrarea. –

The ransom of a man’s life is his wealth, but a poor man hears no threat.

Az igazak világossága vígan ég, de az istentelenek mécsese kialszik.

Az igazak világossága vígassággal ég; de az istenteleneknek szövétneke kialszik.

The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Lumina celor neprihăniţi arde voioasă, dar candela celor răi se stinge. –

The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked will be put out.

A kevélységből csak háborúság lesz, de bölcsesség van azoknál, akik elfogadják a tanácsot.

Csak háborúság lesz a kevélységből: azoknál pedig, a kik a tanácsot beveszik, bölcseség van.

Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

Prin mândrie se aţâţă numai certuri, dar înţelepciunea este cu cel ce ascultă sfaturile. –

By insolence comes nothing but strife, but with those who take advice is wisdom.

A hamisan szerzett vagyon elfolyik, aki pedig saját kezével gyűjt, gyarapítja azt.

A hiábavalóságból keresett marha megkisebbül; a ki pedig kezével gyűjt, megőregbíti [azt.]

Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

Bogăţia câştigată fără trudă scade, dar ce se strânge încetul cu încetul, creşte. –

Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.

A halogatott reménység beteggé teszi a szívet, de élet fája a beteljesült kívánság.

A halogatott reménység beteggé teszi a szívet; de a megadatott kivánság életnek fája.

Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

O nădejde amânată îmbolnăveşte inima, dar o dorinţă împlinită este un pom de viaţă. –

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

Aki az igét megveti, romlására lesz az annak, de aki féli a parancsolatot, megkapja jutalmát.

Az igének megútálója megrontatik; a ki pedig féli a parancsolatot, jutalmát veszi.

Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

Cine nesocoteşte Cuvântul Domnului se pierde, dar cine se teme de poruncă este răsplătit. –

Whoever despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded.

A bölcs tanítás élet forrása a halál tőrének elkerülésére.

A bölcsnek tanítása életnek kútfeje, a halál tőrének eltávoztatására.

The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Învăţătura înţeleptului este un izvor de viaţă, ca să abată pe om din cursele morţii. –

The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.

A bölcs belátás kedvessé tesz, de rögös a hitetlenek útja.

Jó értelem ád kedvességet; a hitetleneknek pedig útja kemény.

Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

O minte sănătoasă câştigă bunăvoinţă, dar calea celor stricaţi este pietroasă. –

Good sense wins favor, but the way of the treacherous is their ruin.

Minden eszes ember bölcsen cselekszik, a bolond pedig bolondságát terjeszti.

Minden eszes cselekszik bölcseséggel; a bolond pedig kijelenti az ő bolondságát.

Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

Orice om chibzuit lucrează cu cunoştinţă, dar nebunul îşi dă la iveală nebunia. –

Every prudent man acts with knowledge, but a fool flaunts his folly.

A gonosz követ bajba jut, a hűséges követ azonban gyógyulást hoz.

Az istentelen követ bajba esik; a hívséges követ pedig gyógyulás.

A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

Un sol rău cade în nenorocire, dar un sol credincios aduce tămăduire. –

A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a faithful envoy brings healing.

Szegénység és gyalázat lesz azon, aki megveti a feddést, de tisztelik azt, aki megfogadja az intést.

Szegénység és gyalázat lesz azon, a ki a fenyítéktől magát elvonja; a ki pedig megfogadja a dorgálást, tiszteltetik.

Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

Sărăcia şi ruşinea sunt partea celui ce leapădă certarea, dar cel ce ia seama la mustrare este pus în cinste. –

Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is honored.

A beteljesült kívánság gyönyörűséges a léleknek, de a bolondoknak iszonyat elhagyni a gonoszt.

A megnyert kivánság gyönyörűséges a léleknek, és útálatosság a bolondoknak eltávozniok a gonosztól.

The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

Împlinirea unei dorinţe este dulce sufletului, dar celor nebuni le este urât să se lase de rău. –

A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but to turn away from evil is an abomination to fools.

Aki a bölcsekkel jár, bölcs lesz, aki pedig a bolondok társa lesz, az romlásra jut.

A ki jár a bölcsekkel, bölcs lesz; a ki pedig magát társul adja a bolondokhoz, megromol.

He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Cine umblă cu înţelepţii se face înţelept, dar cui îi place să se însoţească cu nebunii o duce rău. –

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

A bűnösöket üldözi a szerencsétlenség, az igazaknak pedig jóval fizet Isten.

A bűnösöket követi a gonosz; az igazaknak pedig jóval fizet [Isten.]

Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

Nenorocirea urmăreşte pe cei ce păcătuiesc, dar cei neprihăniţi vor fi răsplătiţi cu fericire. –

Disaster pursues sinners, but the righteous are rewarded with good.

A jó ember örökséget hagy unokáinak, a bűnös vagyona pedig az igaz számára van eltéve.

A jó örökséget hágy unokáinak; a bűnösnek marhái pedig eltétetnek az igaz számára.

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

Omul de bine lasă moştenitori pe copiii copiilor săi, dar bogăţiile păcătosului sunt păstrate pentru cel neprihănit. –

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.

Bőséges eledele lesz a szegényeknek az új szántáson, de van, akit tönkretesz a törvénytelenség.

Bő étele lesz a szegényeknek az új törésen; de van olyan, a ki igazságtalansága által vész el.

Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

Ogorul pe care-l desţeleneşte săracul dă o hrană îmbelşugată, dar mulţi pier din pricina nedreptăţii lor. –

The fallow ground of the poor would yield much food, but it is swept away through injustice.

Aki visszatartja vesszejét, gyűlöli a fiát; aki pedig szereti, ha kell, megfenyíti.

A ki megtartóztatja az ő vesszejét, gyűlöli az ő fiát; a ki pedig szereti azt, megkeresi őt fenyítékkel.

He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Cine cruţă nuiaua, urăşte pe fiul său, dar cine-l iubeşte, îl pedepseşte îndată. –

Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

Az igaz jóllakásig eszik, az istentelenek hasa pedig szűkölködik.

Az igaz eszik az ő kivánságának megelégedéséig; az istentelenek hasa pedig szűkölködik.

The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

Cel neprihănit mănâncă până se satură, dar pântecele celor răi duce lipsă. –

The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite, but the belly of the wicked suffers want.
