Atyámfiai, férfiak és atyák, hallgassátok meg védekezésemet, amelyet most hozzátok intézek.

Atyámfiai, férfiak és atyák, hallgassátok meg az én beszédemet, a melylyel most magamat előttetek mentem.

Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.

„Fraţilor şi părinţilor, ascultaţi acum cuvântul meu de apărare faţă de voi!”

“Brothers and fathers, hear the defense that I now make before you.”

Amikor hallották, hogy héber nyelven szól hozzájuk, még inkább megnyugodtak. Akkor így szólt:

Mikor pedig hallották, hogy zsidó nyelven szól hozzájok, még inkább nyugalmat tanusítottak. És monda:

(And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)

Când au auzit ei că le vorbeşte în limba evreiască, au ţinut şi mai multă linişte. Şi Pavel a zis:

And when they heard that he was addressing them in the Hebrew language, they became even more quiet. And he said:

Én zsidó ember vagyok, a ciliciai Tarzuszban születtem, de ebben a városban nőttem fel, Gamáliél lábainál, az atyák törvényének szigora szerint neveltek, és buzgó voltam az Isten iránt, amint ma ti is mindnyájan azok vagytok.

Én zsidó ember vagyok, születtem a czilicziai Tárzusban, fölneveltettem pedig ebben a városban a Gamáliel lábainál, taníttattam az atyák törvényének pontossága szerint, buzgó lévén az Istenhez, miként ti mindnyájan vagytok ma:

I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

„Eu sunt iudeu, născut în Tarsul Ciliciei; dar am fost crescut în cetatea aceasta, am învăţat la picioarele lui Gamaliel să cunosc cu de-amănuntul Legea părinţilor noştri şi am fost tot atât de plin de râvnă pentru Dumnezeu, cum sunteţi şi voi toţi azi.

“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated at the feet of Gamaliel according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God as all of you are this day.

Ennek a tanításnak a követőit halálra üldöztem, megkötöztem és börtönbe juttattam férfiakat és nőket.

És ezt a tudományt üldöztem mind halálig, megkötözvén és tömlöczbe vetvén mind férfiakat, mind asszonyokat.

And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

Am prigonit până la moarte această Cale, am legat şi am pus în temniţă bărbaţi şi femei;

I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering to prison both men and women,

Tanúm erre a főpap és a véneknek egész tanácsa, akiktől leveleket kaptam az atyafiakhoz, és Damaszkuszba mentem, hogy az ottaniakat is megkötözve Jeruzsálembe hozzam, hogy megbüntessék őket.

Miképen a főpap is bizonyságom nékem, és a véneknek egész tanácsa; kiktől leveleket is vévén az atyafiakhoz, Damaskusba menék, hogy az odavalókat is fogva hozzam Jeruzsálembe, hogy bűnhődjenek.

As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

marele preot şi tot soborul bătrânilor îmi sunt martori. Am luat chiar şi scrisori de la ei către fraţii din Damasc, unde m-am dus să aduc legaţi la Ierusalim pe cei ce se aflau acolo, ca să fie pedepsiţi.

as the high priest and the whole council of elders can bear me witness. From them I received letters to the brothers, and I journeyed toward Damascus to take those also who were there and bring them in bonds to Jerusalem to be punished.

Történt pedig, hogy amint mentem és közeledtem Damaszkuszhoz, déltájban egyszerre csak nagy világosság sugárzott körül engem az égből.

Lőn pedig, hogy a mint menék és közelgeték Damaskushoz, déltájban nagy hirtelenséggel az égből nagy világosság sugárzott körül engem.

And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.

Când eram pe drum şi mă apropiam de Damasc, deodată, pe la amiază, a strălucit împrejurul meu o mare lumină din cer.

“As I was on my way and drew near to Damascus, about noon a great light from heaven suddenly shone around me.

Földre estem, és egy hangot hallottam, amely azt mondta nekem: Saul, Saul, miért üldözöl engem?

És leesém a földre, és hallék szót, mely monda nékem: Saul, Saul, mit kergetsz engem?

And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

Am căzut la pământ şi am auzit un glas care-mi zicea: „Saule, Saule, pentru ce Mă prigoneşti?”

And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’

Én pedig azt kérdeztem: Ki vagy, Uram? Ő pedig azt mondta nekem: Én vagyok a názáreti Jézus, akit te üldözöl.

Én pedig felelék: Kicsoda vagy, Uram? És monda nékem: Én vagyok a názáreti Jézus, a kit te kergetsz.

And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

„Cine eşti, Doamne?”, am răspuns eu. Şi El mi-a zis: „Eu sunt Isus din Nazaret pe care-L prigoneşti.”

And I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And he said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’

Akik velem voltak, a világosságot ugyan látták, de nem hallották annak hangját, aki velem beszélt.

A kik pedig velem valának, a világosságot ugyan látták, és megrémültek; de annak szavát, a ki velem szól vala, nem hallották.

And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

Cei ce erau cu mine au văzut bine lumina şi s-au înfricoşat; dar n-au auzit glasul Celui ce vorbea.

Now those who were with me saw the light but did not understand the voice of the one who was speaking to me.

Én pedig azt mondtam: Mit tegyek, Uram? Az Úr pedig azt válaszolta: Kelj fel, és menj el Damaszkuszba, és ott megmondják neked mindazt, amit Isten felőled elrendelt, hogy megtedd.

Én pedig mondék: Mit cselekedjem, Uram? Az Úr pedig monda nékem: Kelj fel és menj el Damaskusba; és ott megmondják néked mindazokat, a mik elrendelvék néked, hogy véghez vigyed.

And I said, What shall I do, LORD? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

Atunci am zis: „Ce să fac, Doamne?” „Scoală-te”, mi-a răspuns Domnul, „du-te în Damasc şi acolo ţi se va spune ce trebuie să faci.”

And I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, ‘Rise, and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all that is appointed for you to do.’

De mivel nem láttam annak a világosságnak dicsősége miatt, a velem levők kézen fogva vezettek, úgy mentem be Damaszkuszba.

Mikor pedig nem láték annak a világosságnak dicsősége miatt, a velem valóktól kézenfogva vezettetve menék Damaskusba.

And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.

„Fiindcă nu puteam să văd nimic, din pricina strălucirii luminii aceleia, cei ce erau cu mine m-au luat de mână şi aşa am ajuns în Damasc.

And since I could not see because of the brightness of that light, I was led by the hand by those who were with me, and came into Damascus.

Egy bizonyos Anániás pedig, aki a törvény szerint élő kegyes férfi, akiről az ott lakó zsidók mind jó bizonyságot tesznek,

Egy bizonyos Ananiás pedig, ki a törvény szerint istenfélő férfiú, kiről az ott lakó zsidók mind jó bizonyságot tesznek,

And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,

Şi a venit la mine un om, numit Anania, bărbat temător de Dumnezeu după Lege, şi pe care toţi iudeii care locuiesc în Damasc îl vorbeau de bine.

“And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there,

hozzám jött, és mellém állva azt mondta nekem: Atyámfia, Saul, láss újra! És én abban a pillanatban rátekintettem.

Hozzám jöve és mellém állva monda nékem: Saul atyámfia, nyerd vissza szemed világát. És én azon szempillantásban reá tekintettem.

Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.

El mi-a zis: „Frate Saule, capătă-ţi din nou vederea!” Chiar în clipa aceea, mi-am căpătat vederea şi m-am uitat la el.

came to me, and standing by me said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight.’ And at that very hour I received my sight and saw him.

Ő pedig azt mondta: Atyáink Istene kiválasztott téged, hogy megismerd az ő akaratát, és meglásd az Igazat, és hangját a saját szájából halljad.

Ő pedig monda: A mi atyáinknak Istene választott téged, hogy megismerd az ő akaratát, és meglásd amaz Igazat, és szót hallj az ő szájából.

And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.

El mi-a zis: „Dumnezeul părinţilor noştri te-a ales să cunoşti voia Lui, să vezi pe Cel Neprihănit şi să auzi cuvinte din gura Lui;

And he said, ‘The God of our fathers appointed you to know his will, to see the Righteous One and to hear a voice from his mouth;

Mert tanúja leszel neki minden ember előtt azok felől, amiket láttál és hallottál.

Mert leszel néki tanúbizonysága minden embernél azok felől, a miket láttál és hallottál.

For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

căci Îi vei fi martor, faţă de toţi oamenii, pentru lucrurile pe care le-ai văzut şi auzit.

for you will be a witness for him to everyone of what you have seen and heard.

Most azért mit késlekedsz? Kelj fel, keresztelkedj meg, és az Úr nevét segítségül hívva mosd le bűneidet.

Most annakokáért mit késedelmezel? Kelj fel és keresztelkedjél meg és mosd le a te bűneidet, segítségül híván az Úrnak nevét.

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Şi acum, ce zăboveşti? Scoală-te, primeşte botezul şi fii spălat de păcatele tale, chemând Numele Domnului.”

And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’

Történt pedig, hogy amikor Jeruzsálembe visszatértem, és imádkoztam a templomban, révületbe estem,

Lőn pedig, hogy mikor Jeruzsálembe megtértem és imádkozám a templomban, elragadtatám lelkemben,

And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;

Şi mi s-a întâmplat că, după ce m-am întors la Ierusalim, pe când mă rugam în Templu, am căzut într-o răpire sufletească;

“When I had returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, I fell into a trance

és láttam őt, aki ezt mondta nekem: Siess, és menj ki hamar Jeruzsálemből, mert nem fogadják el a rólam szóló bizonyságtételedet!

És látám őt, ki ezt mondá nékem: Siess és menj ki hamar Jeruzsálemből: mert nem veszik be a te tanúbizonyságtételedet én felőlem.

And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.

şi am văzut pe Domnul care-mi zicea: „Grăbeşte-te, ieşi iute din Ierusalim, căci nu vor primi mărturisirea ta despre Mine.”

and saw him saying to me, ‘Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about me.’

Én pedig azt mondtam: Uram, ők maguk tudják, hogy én voltam az, aki börtönbe vetettem és zsinagógáról zsinagógára járva megvertem azokat, akik hittek benned.

És én mondék: Uram, ők magok tudják, hogy én tömlöczbe vetettem és vertem zsinagógánként azokat, a kik hisznek vala te benned:

And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

Şi am zis: „Doamne, ei ştiu că eu băgam în temniţă şi băteam prin sinagogi pe cei ce cred în Tine

And I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that in one synagogue after another I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you.

Amikor a te vértanúdnak, Istvánnak a vérét kiontották, én is ott álltam, helyeseltem azt, és őriztem azoknak ruháját, akik őt megölték.

És mikor ama te mártírodnak, Istvánnak vére kiontaték, én is ott állék és helyeslém az ő megöletését, és őrizém azoknak köntösét, a kik őt megölték.

And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

şi că, atunci când se vărsa sângele lui Ştefan, martorul Tău, eram şi eu de faţă, îmi uneam încuviinţarea mea cu a celorlalţi şi păzeam hainele celor ce-l omorau.”

And when the blood of Stephen your witness was being shed, I myself was standing by and approving and watching over the garments of those who killed him.’

Ő pedig azt mondta nekem: Eredj el, mert én messzire küldelek téged, a pogányok közé.

És monda nékem: Eredj el, mert én téged messze küldelek a pogányok közé.

And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

Atunci El mi-a zis: „Du-te, căci te voi trimite departe la Neamuri…”

And he said to me, ‘Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”

Eddig a szóig hallgatták őt, de akkor kiabálni kezdtek: Töröld el a föld színéről az ilyet, mert nem érdemli meg, hogy éljen.

Hallgatják vala pedig őt e szóig; de most felemelék szavokat, mondván: Töröld el a földszínéről az ilyent, mert nem illik néki élni.

And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

Ei l-au ascultat până la cuvântul acesta. Dar atunci şi-au ridicat glasul şi au zis: „Ia de pe pământ pe un astfel de om! Nu este vrednic să trăiască!”

Up to this word they listened to him. Then they raised their voices and said, “Away with such a fellow from the earth! For he should not be allowed to live.”

Miközben kiabáltak, ruháikat eldobálták, és port szórtak a levegőbe.

Mikor pedig azok kiabáltak, és köntösüket elhányák, és port szórának a levegőbe,

And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,

Şi scoteau strigăte, îşi aruncau hainele şi azvârleau cu ţărână în văzduh.

And as they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air,

Az ezredes pedig megparancsolta, hogy vigyék Pált a várba, és meghagyta, hogy korbácsütésekkel vallassák ki, hogy megtudja, miért kiáltoztak úgy ellene.

Parancsolá az ezredes, hogy vigyék őt a várba, mondván, hogy korbácsütésekkel vallassák ki őt, hogy megtudhassa, mi okért kiabáltak úgy reá.

The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.

Căpitanul a poruncit să ducă pe Pavel în cetăţuie şi să-l cerceteze, bătându-l cu biciul, ca să afle din ce pricină strigau aşa împotriva lui.

the tribune ordered him to be brought into the barracks, saying that he should be examined by flogging, to find out why they were shouting against him like this.

Amikor azonban szíjakkal lekötözték, azt mondta Pál az ott álló századosnak: Szabad-e nektek római polgárt ítélet nélkül megkorbácsolni?

A mint azonban lekötötték őt a szíjakkal, monda Pál az ott álló századosnak: Vajjon szabad-é néktek római embert, kit el nem ítéltek, megostorozni?

And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?

Pe când îl legau cu curele, Pavel a zis sutaşului care era de faţă: „Vă este îngăduit să bateţi pe un roman care nu este osândit?”

But when they had stretched him out for the whips, Paul said to the centurion who was standing by, “Is it lawful for you to flog a man who is a Roman citizen and uncondemned?”

Ahogy meghallotta ezt a százados, elment, és jelentette az ezredesnek: Vigyázz, mit teszel, mert ez az ember római!

Miután pedig ezt meghallá a százados, elmenvén, megjelenté az ezredesnek, mondván: Meglásd, mit akarsz cselekedni; mert ez az ember római.

When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.

La auzul acestor cuvinte, sutaşul s-a dus să dea de ştire căpitanului şi a zis: „Ce ai de gând să faci? Omul acesta este cetăţean roman.”

When the centurion heard this, he went to the tribune and said to him, “What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman citizen.”

Hozzá ment azért az ezredes, és megkérdezte tőle: Mondd meg nekem, valóban római polgár vagy? Ő pedig azt felelte: Az vagyok.

Hozzámenvén azért az ezredes, monda néki: Mondd meg nékem, te római vagy-é? Ő pedig monda: Az.

Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea.

Şi, când a venit căpitanul, a zis lui Pavel: „Spune-mi, eşti roman?” „Da”, i-a răspuns el.

So the tribune came and said to him, “Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?” And he said, “Yes.”

Az ezredes akkor azt mondta: Én nagy összegért szereztem meg ezt a polgárjogot. Pál pedig azt mondta: Én pedig beleszülettem.

És felele az ezredes: Én nagy összegért vettem meg ezt a polgárjogot. Pál pedig monda: Én pedig [benne] is születtem.

And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.

Căpitanul a zis: „Eu cu o mare sumă de bani am dobândit cetăţenia aceasta.” „Şi eu”, a zis Pavel, „sunt chiar născut roman.”

The tribune answered, “I bought this citizenship for a large sum.” Paul said, “But I am a citizen by birth.”

Vallatói akkor azonnal félrehúzódtak mellőle. Sőt az ezredes is megijedt, amikor megtudta, hogy római az, akit megkötöztetett.

Mindjárt eltávozának azért ő tőle, a kik őt vallatni akarák. Sőt az ezredes is megijede, mikor megértette, hogy római, és hogy őt megkötöztette.

Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.

Numaidecât, cei ce aveau să-l cerceteze prin bătaie au încetat să-l mai necăjească; ba căpitanul, când a aflat că Pavel este roman, s-a temut, pentru că-l legase.

So those who were about to examine him withdrew from him immediately, and the tribune also was afraid, for he realized that Paul was a Roman citizen and that he had bound him.

Másnap pedig teljes bizonyossággal meg akarta tudni, hogy a zsidók mivel vádolják, ezért bilincseit feloldotta, és megparancsolta, hogy a főpapok és az egész nagytanács gyűljön össze, majd Pált levezette és eléjük állította.

Másnap pedig meg akarván tudni a bizonyos valóságot, miben vádoltatik a zsidóktól, feloldatá őt bilincseiből, és megparancsolá, hogy a főpapok az ő egész tanácsokkal egyben hozzá menjenek; és levezetvén Pált, eleikbe állatá.

On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.

A doua zi, fiindcă voia să ştie bine pentru ce este pârât de iudei, l-a dezlegat şi a poruncit să se adune laolaltă preoţii cei mai de seamă şi tot soborul; apoi, a adus pe Pavel jos şi l-a pus înaintea lor.

But on the next day, desiring to know the real reason why he was being accused by the Jews, he unbound him and commanded the chief priests and all the council to meet, and he brought Paul down and set him before them.
