Örvendezz, ifjú, a te ifjúságodban, és vidámítson meg szíved ifjúságod idején; élj szíved szerint, ahogy szemed jónak látja! De tudd meg, hogy mindezekért Isten megítél téged!

Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

Dar adu-ţi aminte de Făcătorul tău în zilele tinereţii tale, până nu vin zilele cele rele şi până nu se apropie anii când vei zice: „Nu găsesc nicio plăcere în ei”;

Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”;

Távolítsd el a haragot szívedből, és vesd el a gonoszt a testedtől, mert az ifjúság és a hajnal hiábavalóság.

While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars are darkened and the clouds return after the rain,

Emlékezzél meg Teremtődről ifjúságod idején, míg el nem jönnek a veszedelem napjai, és míg el nem jönnek azok az esztendők, melyekről azt mondod: nem szeretem ezeket;

És emlékezzél meg a te Teremtődről a te ifjúságodnak idejében, míg a veszedelemnek napjai el nem jőnek, és míg el nem jőnek az esztendők, melyekről azt mondod: nem szeretem ezeket!

In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

până nu încep să tremure paznicii casei şi să se încovoaie cele tari până nu se opresc cei ce macină căci s-au împuţinat; până nu se întunecă cei ce se uită pe ferestre

in the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men are bent, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look through the windows are dimmed,

amíg a nap, a világosság, a hold és csillagok el nem sötétednek, és a sűrű felhők ismét vissza nem térnek az eső után.

A míg a nap meg nem setétedik, a világossággal, a holddal és csillagokkal egybe; és a sűrű felhők ismét visszatérnek az eső után.

And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;

până nu se închid cele două uşi dinspre uliţă când uruitul morii slăbeşte, te scoli la ciripitul unei păsări, glasul tuturor cântăreţelor se aude înăbuşit,

Akkor megremegnek a ház őrzői, és megrogynak az erős férfiak, és megállnak az őrlő leányok, mert megfogyatkoztak, és elhomályosulnak az ablakon kinézők.

Az időben, mikor megremegnek a háznak őrizői, és megrogynak az erős férfiak, és megállanak az őrlő leányok, mert megkevesbedtek, és meghomályosodnak az ablakon kinézők.

Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

they are afraid also of what is high, and terrors are in the way; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along, and desire fails, because man is going to his eternal home, and the mourners go about the streets—

Az utcára nyíló ajtók bezárulnak, és elhalkul a malom zúgása; fölkelnek a madárszóra is, és halkabbá lesz minden éneklő leány.

Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.

Minden halmocskától félnek, és mindentől megijednek az úton; a mandulafa kivirágzik, és a sáska nehezen vonszolja magát, és kipattan a kapor, mert elmegy az ember az ő örök otthonába, és az utcán körbejárnak a sírók.

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Mielőtt elszakadna az ezüstkötél, vagy összetörne az aranypohár, mielőtt a korsó eltörne a forrásnál, vagy beletörne a kerék a kútba,

Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

O, deşertăciune a deşertăciunilor, zice Eclesiastul; totul este deşertăciune.

Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher; all is vanity.

és a por földdé lenne, mint azelőtt volt, a lélek pedig megtérne Istenhez, aki adta.

And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

Pe lângă că Eclesiastul a fost înţelept, el a mai învăţat şi ştiinţa pe popor, a cercetat, a adâncit şi a întocmit un mare număr de zicători.

Besides being wise, the Preacher also taught the people knowledge, weighing and studying and arranging many proverbs with great care.

Felette nagy hiábavalóság – mondja a prédikátor –, minden hiábavalóság!

Felette nagy hiábavalóságok, azt mondja a prédikátor, mindezek hiábavalóságok!

The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

Eclesiastul a căutat să afle cuvinte plăcute şi să scrie întocmai cuvintele adevărului.

The Preacher sought to find words of delight, and uprightly he wrote words of truth.

Azonfölül, hogy bölcs volt a prédikátor, még a népet is tudományra tanította, fontolgatott, tudakozódott, és sok bölcs mondást írt.

The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

Cuvintele înţelepţilor sunt ca nişte bolduri; şi, strânse la un loc, sunt ca nişte cuie bătute, date de un singur stăpân.

The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd.

Igyekezett a prédikátor a hasznos beszédeket megtalálni, amelyek igazat írnak, az igazság beszédeit.

És igyekezett a prédikátor megtudni sok kivánságos beszédeket, igaz írást és igaz beszédeket.

And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

Încolo, fiule, ia învăţătură din aceste lucruri; dacă ai voi să faci o mulţime de cărţi, să ştii că n-ai mai isprăvi, şi multă învăţătură oboseşte trupul.

My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

A bölcsek beszédei olyanok, mint az ösztöke; a gyülekezet tanítóinak szavai olyanok, mint az erősen bevert szögek, amelyek a Pásztortól származnak.

A bölcseknek beszédei hasonlatosak az ösztökéhez, és mint a szegek, erősen le vannak verve a gyülekezetek tanítóinak [szavai;] melyek egy pásztortól adattak.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Să ascultăm, dar, încheierea tuturor învăţăturilor: Teme-te de Dumnezeu şi păzeşte poruncile Lui. Aceasta este datoria oricărui om.

The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

Mindezeken felül, fiam, fogadd el az intést: a sok könyv írásának nincs vége, és a sok tanulásban elfárad a test.

Mindezekből, fiam, intessél meg: a sok könyvek írásának nincs vége, és a sok tanulás fáradságára van a testnek.

For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Căci Dumnezeu va aduce orice faptă la judecată, şi judecata aceasta se va face cu privire la tot ce este ascuns, fie bine, fie rău.

For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Mindezt hallva ez a dolgok summája: Féld Istent, és tartsd meg parancsolatait, mert ez az ember legfőbb dolga!

[A dolognak summája, mindezeket hallván, [ez:] az Istent féljed, és az ő parancsolatit megtartsad; mert ez az embernek fődolga!]

Mert Isten minden cselekedetet megítél, minden titkos dologgal együtt, akár jó, akár gonosz az.
