Ki olyan, mint a bölcs, és ki tudja a dolgok magyarázatát? A bölcsesség megvilágosítja az ember arcát, és kemény vonásai megenyhülnek.

Kicsoda hasonló a bölcshöz, és ki tudja a dolgok magyarázatát? Az embernek bölcsesége megvilágosítja az ő orczáját; és az ő ábrázatjának erőssége megváltozik.

Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

Cine este ca cel înţelept şi cine pricepe rostul lucrurilor? Înţelepciunea omului îi luminează faţa, şi asprimea feţei i se schimbă.

Who is like the wise? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.

Azt mondom, hogy a király parancsát meg kell tartani, már csak az Istennek tett eskü miatt is.

Én [mondom,] hogy a királynak parancsolatját meg kell őrizni, és pedig az Istenre való esküvés miatt.

I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.

Eu îţi spun: „Păzeşte poruncile împăratului, din pricina jurământului făcut înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

I say: Keep the king’s command, because of God’s oath to him.

Ne siess el színe elől, ne állj rá a gonosz dologra, mert bármit akar, megcselekszi azt.

Ne siess elmenni az ő orczája elől, ne állj rá a gonosz dologra; mert valamit akar, megcselekszi.

Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.

Nu te grăbi să pleci dinaintea lui şi nu stărui într-un lucru rău: căci el poate face tot ce vrea,

Be not hasty to go from his presence. Do not take your stand in an evil cause, for he does whatever he pleases.

Mivel hatalmas a király szava, ki merné neki azt mondani: mit teszel?

Mivelhogy a király szava hatalmas; és kicsoda merné néki ezt mondani: mit mívelsz?

Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?

pentru că vorba împăratului are putere. Cine poate zice: „Ce faci?”?

For the word of the king is supreme, and who may say to him, “What are you doing?”

Aki a parancsolatot megtartja, nem ismer nyomorúságot, és a bölcs felismeri az alkalmas időt és az ítéletet;

A ki megtartja a parancsolatot, nem ismer nyomorúságot, és a bölcsnek elméje megért mind időt, mind ítéletet;

Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.

Pe cine păzeşte porunca, nu-l atinge nicio nenorocire, dar inima înţeleptului cunoaşte şi vremea şi judecata.

Whoever keeps a command will know no evil thing, and the wise heart will know the proper time and the just way.

mert minden szándék elérésének megvan az ideje és módja, hiszen az embert sok nyomorúság terheli.

Mert minden akaratnak van ideje és ítélete; mert az embernek nyomorúsága sok ő rajta;

Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.

Căci pentru orice lucru este o vreme şi o judecată, şi nenorocirea paşte pe om.

For there is a time and a way for everything, although man’s trouble lies heavy on him.

Senki sem tudja azt, hogy mi következik, mert ki mondhatná meg, hogy mi hogyan lesz?

Mert nem tudja azt, a mi következik; mert ki mondja meg néki, mimódon lesz az?

For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?

Dar el nu ştie ce şi cum se va întâmpla, căci n-are nici cine-i spune.

For he does not know what is to be, for who can tell him how it will be?

Senki sem uralkodhat a szél fölött, hogy fogva tartsa, és semmi hatalma nincs az embernek a halál napja fölött. Háború idején senki sem mehet szabadságra, és a gonoszság nem szabadítja meg azt, aki elköveti.

Egy ember sem uralkodhatik a szélen, hogy feltartsa a szelet; és semmi hatalmasság nincs a halálnak napja felett, és az ütközetben senkit el nem bocsátanak; és a gonoszság nem szabadítja meg azt, a ki azzal él.

There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

Omul nu este stăpân pe suflarea lui, ca s-o poată opri, şi n-are nicio putere peste ziua morţii; în lupta aceasta nu este izbăvire, şi răutatea nu poate scăpa pe cei răi.

No man has power to retain the spirit, or power over the day of death. There is no discharge from war, nor will wickedness deliver those who are given to it.

Láttam mindezt, és megfigyeltem mindent, ami a nap alatt történik olyan időben, amikor egyik ember a másik kárára hatalmaskodik.

Mindezt láttam, és megfigyeltem minden dolgot, a mely történik a nap alatt, oly időben, a melyben uralkodik az ember az emberen maga kárára.

All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.

Toate acestea le-am văzut, şi mi-am îndreptat inima spre tot ce se face sub soare. Este o vreme când un om stăpâneşte peste alt om, ca să-l facă nenorocit.

All this I observed while applying my heart to all that is done under the sun, when man had power over man to his hurt.

Azután láttam, hogy a gonoszokat eltemetik, és nyugalomra mentek, viszont eltávolították a szent helyről azokat, akik becsületesen cselekedtek, és nevük feledésbe merült a városban. Ez is hiábavalóság!

És azután láttam, hogy a gonoszok eltemettettek és [nyugalomra ]mentek; viszont a szent helyről kimentek, és elfelejttettek a városban [olyanok,] a kik becsületesen cselekedtek. Ez is hiábavalóság!

And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

Atunci am văzut pe cei răi îngropaţi şi ducându-se la odihna lor, iar pe cei ce lucraseră cu neprihănire depărtându-se de locul sfânt şi uitaţi în cetate. Şi aceasta este o deşertăciune!

Then I saw the wicked buried. They used to go in and out of the holy place and were praised in the city where they had done such things. This also is vanity.

Mivel nem hajtják végre mindjárt az ítéletet a gonosz cselekedetek fölött, az emberek teljesen a gonosz cselekvésére adják szívüket.

Mivelhogy hamar a szentenczia nem végeztetik el a gonoszságnak cselekedőjén, egészen arra van az emberek fiainak szíve ő bennök, hogy gonoszt cselekedjenek.

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

Pentru că nu se aduce repede la îndeplinire hotărârea dată împotriva faptelor rele, de aceea este plină inima fiilor oamenilor de dorinţa să facă rău.

Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil.

Bár a bűnös akár százszor is vétkezhet, és lehet hosszú az élete, mégis tudom, hogy az istenfélőknek lesz jó dolguk, azoknak, akik az ő arcát félik.

Bár meghosszabbítja [életét] a bűnös, a ki százszor is vétkezik; mégis tudom én, hogy az istenfélőknek lészen jól dolgok, a kik az ő orczáját félik;

Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

Totuşi, măcar că păcătosul face de o sută de ori răul şi stăruie multă vreme în el, eu ştiu că fericirea este pentru cei ce se tem de Dumnezeu şi au frică de El.

Though a sinner does evil a hundred times and prolongs his life, yet I know that it will be well with those who fear God, because they fear before him.

A hitetlennek pedig nem lesz jó dolga, és nem hosszabbíthatja meg életét, olyanná lesz, mint az árnyék, mert nem rettegi Isten arcát.

A hitetlennek pedig nem lesz jó dolga, és nem hosszabbítja meg az ő életét, [olyan lesz], mint az árnyék, mert nem rettegi az Istennek orczáját.

But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.

Dar cel rău nu este fericit şi nu-şi va lungi zilele, întocmai ca umbra, pentru că n-are frică de Dumnezeu.

But it will not be well with the wicked, neither will he prolong his days like a shadow, because he does not fear before God.

Van ilyen hiábavalóság, amely e földön történik: vannak igazak, akikkel mint gonosztevővel bánnak, és vannak gonoszok, akiknek a sorsuk az igazak cselekedetei szerint alakul. Azt mondom, hogy ez is hiábavalóság.

Van hiábavalóság, a mely e földön történik; az, hogy vannak oly igazak, a kiknek dolga a gonoszoknak cselekedetei szerint lesz; és vannak gonoszok, a kiknek dolga az igazaknak cselekedetei szerint lesz; mondám, hogy ez is hiábavalóság.

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

Este o deşertăciune care se petrece pe pământ: şi anume, sunt oameni neprihăniţi cărora le merge ca şi celor răi, care fac fapte rele, şi sunt răi cărora le merge ca şi celor neprihăniţi, care fac fapte bune. Eu zic că şi aceasta este o deşertăciune.

There is a vanity that takes place on earth, that there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked, and there are wicked people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

Ezért az örömöt dicsérem. Mert nincs az ember számára jobb e világon, mint hogy egyék, igyék és vigadjon, és ez kísérje őt munkájában élete minden napján, amit Isten adott neki a nap alatt.

Annakokáért dicsérem vala én a vígasságot, hogy nincsen embernek jobb e világon, hanem hogy egyék, igyék és vígadjon; és ez kisérje őt munkájában az ő életének napjaiban, a melyeket ád néki Isten a nap alatt.

Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.

Am lăudat, dar, petrecerea, pentru că nu este altă fericire pentru om sub soare decât să mănânce şi să bea, şi să se înveselească; iată ce trebuie să-l însoţească în mijlocul muncii lui, în zilele vieţii pe care i le dă Dumnezeu sub soare.

And I commend joy, for man has nothing better under the sun but to eat and drink and be joyful, for this will go with him in his toil through the days of his life that God has given him under the sun.

When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:)

Când mi-am pus inima să cunosc înţelepciunea şi să mă uit cu băgare de seamă la truda pe care şi-o dă omul pe pământ – căci omul nu vede somn cu ochii, nici zi, nici noapte –

Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.

am văzut atunci toată lucrarea lui Dumnezeu, am văzut că omul nu poate să pătrundă ce se face sub soare; oricât s-ar trudi el să cerceteze, tot nu va putea afla; şi chiar dacă înţeleptul ar zice că a ajuns să înţeleagă, tot nu poate să găsească.
