Mert a sok bölcsességben sok szomorúság is van, és aki gyarapítja tudását, gyarapítja a gyötrelmet is.

Mert a bölcsességnek sokaságában sok búsulás van, és valaki öregbíti a tudományt, öregbíti a gyötrelmet.

I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.

Am zis inimii mele: „Haide! Vreau să te încerc cu veselie, şi gustă fericirea.” Dar iată că şi aceasta este o deşertăciune.

I said in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy yourself.” But behold, this also was vanity.

Azt mondtam a szívemben: rajta, próbálkozz a vigassággal, hogy lásd meg, mi a jó! És íme, az is hiábavalóság!

Mondék az én szívemben: no, megpróbállak téged a vígan való lakásban, hogy lásd meg, mi a jó! És ímé, az is hiábavalóság!

I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?

Am zis râsului: „Eşti o nebunie!”, şi veseliei: „Ce te înşeli degeaba?”

I said of laughter, “It is mad,” and of pleasure, “What use is it?”

A nevetésről azt mondtam: bolondság! A vigasságról pedig: mit használ az!

A nevetésről azt mondom: bolondság! a vígasságról pedig: mit használ az?

I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.

Am hotărât în inima mea să-mi înveselesc trupul cu vin, în timp ce inima mă va cârmui cu înţelepciune, şi să stărui astfel în nebunie, până voi vedea ce este bine să facă fiii oamenilor sub ceruri, în tot timpul vieţii lor.

I searched with my heart how to cheer my body with wine—my heart still guiding me with wisdom—and how to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was good for the children of man to do under heaven during the few days of their life.

Elhatároztam szívemben, hogy borivásra adom magam – persze úgy, hogy szívemet a bölcsesség vezesse –, és kipróbálom ezt a bolondságot, míg meg nem látom, hogy mi az, amit a legjobb tenniük az emberek fiainak az ég alatt életük minden napján.

Elvégezém az én szívemben, hogy boritalra adom magamat, (pedig szívem a bölcseséget követé) és előveszem ezt a bolondságot, mígnem meglátom, hogy az emberek fiainak mi volna jó, a mit cselekedjenek az ég alatt, az életök napjainak száma szerint.

I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards:

Am făcut lucruri mari: mi-am zidit case, mi-am sădit vii,

I made great works. I built houses and planted vineyards for myself.

Igen nagy dolgokat cselekedtem: házakat építettem, és szőlőt ültettem magamnak.

Felette nagy dolgokat cselekedtem; építék magamnak házakat; ülteték magamnak szőlőket.

I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits:

mi-am făcut grădini şi livezi de pomi şi am sădit în ele tot felul de pomi roditori.

I made myself gardens and parks, and planted in them all kinds of fruit trees.

Csináltattam magamnak kerteket és ligeteket, és ültettem beléjük mindenféle gyümölcstermő fát.

Csinálék magamnak kerteket és ékességre való kerteket, és ülteték beléjök mindenféle gyümölcstermő fákat.

I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees:

Mi-am făcut iazuri, ca să ud dumbrava unde cresc copacii.

I made myself pools from which to water the forest of growing trees.

Csináltattam magamnak víztároló tavakat, hogy belőlük öntözzem a fák sarjadó erdejét.

Csinálék magamnak víz[tartó] tavakat, hogy azokból öntözzem a fáknak sarjadó erdejét.

I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me:

Am cumpărat robi şi roabe, şi am avut copii de casă; am avut cirezi de boi şi turme de oi, mai mult decât toţi cei ce fuseseră înainte de mine în Ierusalim.

I bought male and female slaves, and had slaves who were born in my house. I had also great possessions of herds and flocks, more than any who had been before me in Jerusalem.

Szereztem szolgákat és szolgálókat, házamnál nevelkedett szolgáim is voltak. Marhám és juhnyájam is több volt, mint azoknak, akik elődeim voltak Jeruzsálemben.

Szerzék szolgákat és szolgálókat, házamnál nevekedett szolgáim is voltak nékem; öreg és apró barmoknak nyájaival is többel bírtam mindazoknál, a kik voltak én előttem Jeruzsálemben.

I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts.

Mi-am strâns argint şi aur, şi bogăţii ca de împăraţi şi ţări. Mi-am adus cântăreţi şi cântăreţe, şi desfătarea fiilor oamenilor: o mulţime de femei.

I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the treasure of kings and provinces. I got singers, both men and women, and many concubines, the delight of the sons of man.

Gyűjtöttem magamnak ezüstöt és aranyat is, királyok és tartományok kincsét. Szereztem magamnak énekeseket és énekesnőket és azt, ami a férfit gyönyörködteti: szép nőket.

Gyűjték magamnak ezüstöt és aranyat is, és királyok drágaságait és tartományokat; szerzék magamnak éneklő férfiakat és éneklő asszonyokat, és az emberek fiainak gyönyörűségit, asszonyt és asszonyokat.

So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.

Am ajuns mare, mai mare decât toţi cei ce erau înaintea mea în Ierusalim. Mi-am păstrat chiar înţelepciunea.

So I became great and surpassed all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also my wisdom remained with me.

Naggyá lettem, és felülmúltam mindazokat, akik elődeim voltak Jeruzsálemben, és a bölcsességem is megmaradt nekem.

És nagygyá levék és megnevekedém mindazok felett, a kik előttem voltak Jeruzsálemben; az én bölcseségem is helyén volt.

And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.

Tot ce mi-au poftit ochii, le-am dat; nu mi-am oprit inima de la nicio veselie, ci am lăsat-o să se bucure de toată truda mea, şi aceasta mi-a fost partea din toată osteneala mea.

And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil.

Nem tagadtam meg szememtől, bármit is kívánt, és nem vontam meg szívemtől semmi vigasságot; hanem szívem örvendezett minden jónak, amit munkámmal gyűjtöttem, hiszen ez volt a jutalmam minden erőfeszítésemért.

Valamit kivánnak vala az én szemeim: meg nem fogtam azoktól, meg sem tartóztattam az én szívemet semmi vígasságtól, hanem az én szívem örvendezett minden én munkám[mal gyűjtött jók]ban; mivelhogy ez volt az én részem minden én munkáimból.

Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.

Apoi, când m-am uitat cu băgare de seamă la toate lucrările pe care le făcusem cu mâinile mele şi la truda cu care le făcusem, am văzut că în toate este numai deşertăciune şi goană după vânt, şi că nu este nimic trainic sub soare.

Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.

De amikor ránéztem minden művemre, amelyet kezem alkotott, és munkámra, amelyet fáradsággal végeztem: íme, mind hiábavalóság és szélkergetés volt az, és nincsen annak semmi haszna a nap alatt!

És tekinték minden dolgaimra, melyeket cselekedtek vala az én kezeim, és az én munkámra, mit fáradsággal végeztem vala; és ímé, az mind hiábavalóság és a léleknek gyötrelme, és nincsen annak semmi haszna a nap alatt!

And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.

Atunci mi-am întors privirile spre înţelepciune, prostie şi nebunie. – Căci ce va face omul care va veni după împărat? Ceea ce s-a făcut şi mai înainte. –

So I turned to consider wisdom and madness and folly. For what can the man do who comes after the king? Only what has already been done.

Azután nekiláttam, hogy megfigyeljem a bölcsességet meg a bolondságot és az esztelenséget, azaz hogy mit cselekszenek az emberek, akik a király után következnek. Csak azt, amit régen is cselekedtek.

Azért fordulék én, hogy lássak bölcseséget és bolondságot és esztelenséget, az az hogy mit [cselekesz]nek az emberek, a kik a király után következnek: azt, a mit régen cselekedtek.

Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.

Şi am văzut că înţelepciunea este cu atât mai de folos decât nebunia, cu cât este mai de folos lumina decât întunericul;

Then I saw that there is more gain in wisdom than in folly, as there is more gain in light than in darkness.

Láttam, hogy hasznosabb a bölcsesség a bolondságnál, ahogyan a világosság is hasznosabb a sötétségnél.

És látám, hogy hasznosb a bölcseség a bolondságnál, miképen hasznosb a világosság a setétségnél.

The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.

înţeleptul îşi are ochii în cap, iar nebunul umblă în întuneric. Dar am băgat de seamă că şi unul şi altul au aceeaşi soartă.

The wise person has his eyes in his head, but the fool walks in darkness. And yet I perceived that the same event happens to all of them.

A bölcs fejéhez szem is tartozik, a bolond pedig sötétben jár. De fölismertem, hogy ugyanaz lesz a vége mindegyiküknek.

A bölcsnek szemei [vannak] a fejében; a bolond pedig setétben jár; de ugyan én megismerém, hogy ugyanazon egy végök lesz mindezeknek.

Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.

Şi am zis în inima mea: „Dacă şi eu voi avea aceeaşi soartă ca nebunul, atunci pentru ce am fost mai înţelept?” Şi am zis în inima mea: „Şi aceasta este o deşertăciune.”

Then I said in my heart, “What happens to the fool will happen to me also. Why then have I been so very wise?” And I said in my heart that this also is vanity.

Azért ezt mondtam magamban: ugyanaz lesz a sorsom, mint a bolondé. Akkor tehát mit ér, ha bölcsebb vagyok? Azt mondtam hát magamban: ez is hiábavalóság!

Annakokáért mondám az én elmémben: bolondnak állapotja szerint lesz az én állapotom is, miért valék tehát én is bölcsebb? és mondék az én elmémben: ez is hiábavalóság!

For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.

Căci pomenirea înţeleptului nu este mai veşnică decât a nebunului: chiar în zilele următoare totul este uitat. Şi apoi şi înţeleptul moare, şi nebunul!

For of the wise as of the fool there is no enduring remembrance, seeing that in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. How the wise dies just like the fool!

Mert sem a bölcsre nem emlékeznek örökké, sem a bolondra, mert az eljövendő időben már mind feledésbe merül. És éppúgy meghal a bölcs, mint a bolond.

Mert nem lesz emlékezete sem a bölcsnek, sem a bolondnak mindörökké; mivelhogy a következendő időkben már mind elfelejtetnek: és miképen meghal a bölcs, azonképen meghal a bolond is.

Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

Atunci am urât viaţa, căci nu mi-a plăcut ce se face sub soare: totul este deşertăciune şi goană după vânt.

So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

Azért meggyűlöltem az életet, mert gonosznak tűnt nekem az, ami a nap alatt történik; mert mindez hiábavalóság és szélkergetés.

Azért gyűlöltem az életet; mert gonosznak látszék nékem a dolog, a mi történik a nap alatt; mert mindez hiábavalóság, és a léleknek gyötrelme!

Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.

Mi-am urât până şi toată munca pe care am făcut-o sub soare, muncă pe care o las omului care vine după mine, ca să se bucure de ea.

I hated all my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who will come after me,

Meggyűlöltem a munkámat is, mindazt, amit végeztem a nap alatt, mivel azt valaki másra kell hagynom, aki utánam következik.

Gyűlöltem én minden munkámat is, melyet munkálkodom a nap alatt; mivelhogy el kell hagynom azt oly embernek, a ki én utánam lesz.

And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.

Şi cine ştie dacă va fi înţelept sau nebun? Şi totuşi el va fi stăpân pe toată munca mea pe care am agonisit-o cu trudă şi înţelepciune sub soare. Şi aceasta este o deşertăciune.

and who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity.

És ki tudja, bölcs lesz-e az, vagy bolond. Mégis rendelkezik munkámmal, amellyel fáradoztam, és amelyet bölcsen végeztem a nap alatt! Ez is hiábavalóság!

És ki tudja, ha bölcs lesz-é vagy bolond? és [mégis] uralkodik minden munkámon, a mit cselekedtem és bölcsen szerzettem a nap alatt! Ez is hiábavalóság!

Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.

Am ajuns până acolo că m-a apucat o mare deznădejde de toată munca pe care am făcut-o sub soare.

So I turned about and gave my heart up to despair over all the toil of my labors under the sun,

Azért oda jutottam, hogy teljesen elkeseredett a szívem minden munkám miatt, amit végeztem a nap alatt.

Annakokáért elfordulék én, megfogván reménységtől az én szívemet minden munkám felől, melylyel munkálódtam a nap alatt.

For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.

Căci este câte un om care a muncit cu înţelepciune, cu pricepere şi cu izbândă, şi lasă rodul muncii lui unui om care nu s-a ostenit deloc cu ea. Şi aceasta este o deşertăciune şi un mare rău.

because sometimes a person who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave everything to be enjoyed by someone who did not toil for it. This also is vanity and a great evil.

Mert van olyan ember, aki a munkáját bölcsességgel, tudással és jó eredménnyel végezte el, mégis olyan embernek adja azt örökségül, aki semmit sem dolgozott érte. Ez is hiábavalóság, és nagyon rossz!

Mert van oly ember, a kinek munkája [elvégeztetett] bölcseséggel, tudománynyal és jó kimenetellel; és oly embernek adja azt örökségül, a ki abban semmit sem munkálkodott. Ez is hiábavalóság és nagy gonosz!

For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?

Căci, drept vorbind, ce folos are omul din toată munca lui şi din toată străduinţa inimii lui cu care se trudeşte sub soare?

What has a man from all the toil and striving of heart with which he toils beneath the sun?

Mert mi marad meg az embernek minden munkájából és elméje törekvéséből, mellyel munkálkodott a nap alatt?

Mert micsoda marad meg az embernek minden ő munkájából és elméjének nyughatatlan fáradozásából, melylyel ő munkálódott a nap alatt?

For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.

Toate zilele lui sunt pline de durere, şi truda lui nu este decât necaz: nici măcar noaptea n-are odihnă inima lui. Şi aceasta este o deşertăciune.

For all his days are full of sorrow, and his work is a vexation. Even in the night his heart does not rest. This also is vanity.

Mert mindennap szomorúság és bosszúság gyötri, még éjjel sincs nyugta az elméjének. Ez is hiábavalóság!

Holott minden napja bánat, és búsulás az ő foglalatossága, még éjjel is nem nyugodott az ő elméje. Ez is hiábavalóság!

There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.

Nu este altă fericire pentru om decât să mănânce şi să bea, şi să-şi înveselească sufletul cu ce este bun din agoniseala lui! Dar am văzut că şi aceasta vine din mâna lui Dumnezeu.

There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God,

Nincs hát egyéb jó az ember számára, mint hogy egyék, igyék, és úgy éljen, hogy örömét lelje munkájában. Megláttam, hogy Isten kezéből jön ez is.

Nincsen csak e jó is az embernek hatalmában, hogy egyék, igyék, és azt cselekedje, hogy az ő szíve lakozzék gyönyörűséggel az ő munkájából; ezt is láttam én, hogy az Istennek kezében van.

For who can eat, or who else can hasten hereunto, more than I?

Cine, în adevăr, poate să mănânce şi să se bucure fără El?

for apart from him who can eat or who can have enjoyment?

Mert vajon ki ehetne és élhetne kedvére nélküle?

Mert kicsoda ehetnék és élhetne gyönyörűségére rajtam kivül?

For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

Căci El dă omului plăcut Lui înţelepciune, ştiinţă şi bucurie; dar celui păcătos îi dă grija să strângă şi s-adune, ca să dea celui plăcut lui Dumnezeu! Şi aceasta este o deşertăciune şi goană după vânt.

For to the one who pleases him God has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner he has given the business of gathering and collecting, only to give to one who pleases God. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Mert annak az embernek, aki Isten szemében jó, ő bölcsességet, tudást és örömöt adott. A bűnösnek pedig azt a foglalatosságot adta, hogy gyűjtsön, halmozzon, és azután annak adja azt, akit Isten jónak talál. Ez is hiábavalóság és szélkergetés.

[Mert az embernek, a ki jó az ő szemei előtt, adott [Isten] bölcseséget és tudományt és örömöt; a bűnösnek pedig adott foglalatosságot az egybegyűjtésre és az egybehordásra, hogy adja annak, a ki jó az Isten előtt. Ez is hiábavalóság és az elmének gyötrelme!]
