Ha a fejedelem haragja fölgerjed ellened, ne hagyd el helyedet, mert a szelídség nagy bűnöket is lecsöndesít.

Mikor a fejedelemnek haragja felgerjed te ellened, a te helyedet el ne hagyjad; mert a szelídség nagy bűnöket lecsendesít.

Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.

Muştele moarte strică şi acresc untdelemnul negustorului de unsori; tot aşa puţină nebunie biruie înţelepciunea şi slava.

Dead flies make the perfumer’s ointment give off a stench; so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.

Van egy baj, amelyet láttam a nap alatt, egy olyan tévedés, amely a fejedelemtől származik:

Van egy gonosz, a melyet láttam a nap alatt, mintha tévedés volna, a mely a fejedelemtől származik.

A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.

Inima înţeleptului este la dreapta lui, iar inima nebunului la stânga lui.

A wise man’s heart inclines him to the right, but a fool’s heart to the left.

az, hogy a bolondságot nagy méltóságra emelik, az előkelők pedig alacsony sorban ülnek.

[Hogy] a bolondság nagy méltóságra helyeztetett, a gazdagok pedig alacsony [sors]ban ülnek.

Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.

Şi pe orice drum ar merge nebunul, peste tot îi lipseşte mintea şi spune tuturor că este un nebun!

Even when the fool walks on the road, he lacks sense, and he says to everyone that he is a fool.

Láttam, hogy a szolgák lovon ültek, a fejedelmek pedig gyalog mentek a földön, mint a szolgák.

Láttam, hogy a szolgák lovakon [ültek;] a fejedelmek pedig gyalog mentek a földön, mint a szolgák.

If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.

Când izbucneşte împotriva ta mânia celui ce stăpâneşte, nu-ţi părăsi locul, căci sângele rece te păzeşte de mari păcate.

If the anger of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your place, for calmness will lay great offenses to rest.

Aki vermet ás, beleesik, aki a kerítést lerontja, azt megmarja a kígyó.

A ki vermet ás, abba beesik; és a ki a gyepűt elhányja, megmarja azt a kígyó.

There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:

Este un rău pe care l-am văzut sub soare, ca o greşeală care vine de la cel ce cârmuieşte;

Aki követ tör, megsértheti magát azzal; aki fát hasogat, veszedelemben forog.

A ki a köveket helyökből kihányja, fájdalmat szenved azok miatt; a ki hasogatja a fát, veszedelemben forog a miatt.

Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.

nebunia este pusă în dregătorii înalte, iar bogaţii stau în locuri de jos.

Ha a vas megtompul, és nem köszörülik ki az élét, akkor az embernek jobban meg kell feszítenie erejét. A bölcsesség pedig minden dolog elintézésénél eredményre vezet.

Ha a vas megtompul, és annak élit meg nem köszörüli az ember, akkor erejét kell megfeszíteni; a bölcseség pedig [minden dolognak] eligazítására nagy előmenetel.

I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.

Am văzut robi călare, şi voievozi mergând pe jos ca nişte robi.

I have seen slaves on horses, and princes walking on the ground like slaves.

Ha megmar a kígyó, mielőtt megbűvölnék, akkor semmi haszna sincs belőle a bűvölőnek.

Ha megharap a kígyó, a míg meg nem varázsoltatott, azután semmi haszna nincsen a varázslónak.

He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.

Cine sapă groapa altuia cade el în ea, şi cine surpă un zid va fi muşcat de un şarpe.

He who digs a pit will fall into it, and a serpent will bite him who breaks through a wall.

A bölcs ember szájának beszéde kedves, a bolondot azonban saját ajka nyeli el.

A bölcs ember szájának beszédei kedvesek; a bolondnak pedig ajkai elnyelik őt.

Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.

Cine sfărâmă pietre este rănit de ele, şi cine despică lemne este în primejdie.

He who quarries stones is hurt by them, and he who splits logs is endangered by them.

Szája beszédének kezdete bolondság, és a vége szörnyű balgaság.

Az ő szája beszédinek kezdete bolondság, és az ő szája [beszédinek] vége gonosz balgatagság.

If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

Când se toceşte fierul şi rămâne neascuţit, trebuie să-ţi îndoieşti puterile; de aceea la izbândă ajungi prin înţelepciune.

If the iron is blunt, and one does not sharpen the edge, he must use more strength, but wisdom helps one to succeed.

A bolond szaporítja a szót, pedig nem tudja senki, hogy mi következik, és ami majd ezután lesz, azt ki mondja meg neki?

És a bolond szaporítja a szót, [pedig] nem tudja az ember, a mi következik, és a mi utána lesz, kicsoda mondja meg azt néki?

Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.

Când muşcă şarpele, fiindcă n-a fost vrăjit, vrăjitorul n-are niciun câştig din meşteşugul lui.

If the serpent bites before it is charmed, there is no advantage to the charmer.

A bolondot úgy kifárasztja munkája, hogy a városba se tud bemenni.

A bolondnak munkája elfárasztja őt, mert a városba sem tud menni.

The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

Cuvintele unui înţelept sunt plăcute, dar buzele nebunului îi aduc pieirea.

The words of a wise man’s mouth win him favor, but the lips of a fool consume him.

Jaj neked, ország, ha királyod gyermek, és fejedelmeid már reggel lakomáznak!

Jaj néked ország, kinek a te királyod gyermek; és a te fejedelmid reggel esznek.

The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

Cel dintâi cuvânt care-i iese din gură este nebunie, şi cel din urmă este o nebunie şi mai rea.

The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness, and the end of his talk is evil madness.

Boldog vagy, te ország, ha királyod nemes ember, és fejedelmeid rendes időben esznek, a test erejéért, nem pedig a részegségért.

Boldog vagy te ország, kinek a te királyod nemes ember, és a te fejedelmid idejében esznek a [testnek] erejéért és nem az italért.

A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?

Nebunul spune o mulţime de vorbe, măcar că omul nu ştie ce se va întâmpla; şi cine-i va spune ce va fi după el?

A fool multiplies words, though no man knows what is to be, and who can tell him what will be after him?

Ha rest az ember, beroskad a gerenda, és ha ölbe teszi kezét, csöpög a háztető.

A restség miatt elhanyatlik a házfedél, és a kezek restsége miatt csepeg a ház.

The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.

Truda nebunului oboseşte pe cel ce nu cunoaşte drumul spre cetate.

The toil of a fool wearies him, for he does not know the way to the city.

Mulatság kedvéért rendeznek lakomát, és bor vidámítja meg az élőket, de pénzért lehet mindezt megszerezni.

Vígasságnak okáért szereznek lakodalmat, és a bor vídámítja meg az élőket: és a pénz szerzi meg mindezeket.

Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

Vai de tine, ţară al cărei împărat este un copil şi ai cărei voievozi benchetuiesc de dimineaţă!

Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, and your princes feast in the morning!

Még gondolatban se átkozd a királyt, és hálószobádban se átkozd a gazdagot, mert az égi madár is elviszi a szót, és a madár is megjelenti beszédedet.

Még a te gondolatodban is a királyt ne átkozd, és a te ágyasházadban is gonoszt a gazdagnak ne mondj: mert az égi madár is elviszi a szót, és a szárnyas állat is bevádolná a te beszédedet.

Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

Ferice de tine, ţară al cărei împărat este de neam mare şi ai cărei voievozi mănâncă la vremea potrivită ca să-şi întărească puterile, nu ca să se dedea la beţie!

Happy are you, O land, when your king is the son of the nobility, and your princes feast at the proper time, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

Când mâinile sunt leneşe, se lasă grinda, şi, când se lenevesc mâinile, plouă în casă.

A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.

Ospeţele se fac pentru petrecere, vinul înveseleşte viaţa, iar argintul le dă pe toate.

Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

Nu blestema pe împărat, nici chiar în gând, şi nu blestema pe cel bogat în odaia în care te culci; căci s-ar putea întâmpla ca pasărea cerului să-ţi ducă vorba, şi un sol înaripat să-ţi dea pe faţă vorbele.
