Bárcsak testvérem lennél, aki anyám emlőjét szopta, hogy kinn találva megcsókolhatnálak, és mégsem vetnének meg engem!

Vajha lennél nékem én atyámfia, ki az én anyámnak emlőjét szopta, hogy téged kivül találván megcsókolnálak; még sem útálnának meg engem.

O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised.

O! de ai fi fratele meu, care a supt la ţâţele mamei mele! Când te-aş întâlni în uliţă, te-aş săruta, şi nimeni nu m-ar ţine de rău.

Oh that you were like a brother to me who nursed at my mother’s breasts! If I found you outside, I would kiss you, and none would despise me.

I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother's house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

Te-aş lua şi te-aş aduce acasă la casa mamei mele; ea m-ar învăţa să-ţi dau să bei vin mirositor, must din rodiile mele.

I would lead you and bring you into the house of my mother— she who used to teach me. I would give you spiced wine to drink, the juice of my pomegranate.

Bal keze a fejem alatt, és jobb kezével átölel engem.

Az ő balkeze az én fejem alatt, és jobbkezével megölel engem.

His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

Mâna lui cea stângă să fie sub capul meu, şi dreapta lui să mă îmbrăţişeze! –

Kényszerítelek titeket, Jeruzsálem leányai, ne keltsétek, ne ébresszétek föl a szerelmet, amíg nem akarja!

Kényszerítlek titeket, Jeruzsálemnek leányai, miért költenétek és miért serkentenétek fel a szerelmet, mígnem ő akarja?

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.

Vă rog fierbinte, fiice ale Ierusalimului: nu stârniţi, nu treziţi dragostea până nu vine ea. –

I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that you not stir up or awaken love until it pleases.

Ki ez, aki a pusztából jön, aki szerelmesére támaszkodik? Az almafa alatt költöttelek föl, ott szült téged anyád, ott vajúdott veled szülőanyád.

Kicsoda ez a ki feljő a pusztából, a ki az ő szerelmeséhez támaszkodik? Az almafa alatt költöttelek fel téged, ott szült téged a te anyád, ott szült téged a te szülőd!

Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.

Cine este aceea care se suie din pustiu, rezemată de iubitul ei şi zicând: „Te-am trezit sub măr; acolo te-a născut mama ta, acolo te-a născut şi te-a făcut ea”? –

Who is that coming up from the wilderness, leaning on her beloved? Under the apple tree I awakened you. There your mother was in labor with you; there she who bore you was in labor.

Tégy engem mint pecsétet a szívedre, mint pecsétet a karodra. Mert erős a szeretet, mint a halál, kemény a buzgó szerelem, mint a sír. Lángjai tűzlángok, az ÚR lángjai.

Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Sok víz sem olthatja el a szeretetet, folyók sem boríthatják el azt. Ha az ember háza minden kincsét kínálná is a szeretetért, mégis kevesellnék.

Sok vizek el nem olthatnák e szeretetet: a folyóvizek sem boríthatnák azt el: ha az ember minden házabeli marháját adná is e szeretetért, [mégis] megvetnék azt.

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

Apele cele mari nu pot să stingă dragostea, şi râurile n-ar putea s-o înece; de ar da omul toate averile din casa lui pentru dragoste, tot n-ar avea decât dispreţ.

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised. Others

Kicsiny a húgunk, nincs még keble. Mit cselekedjünk húgunkkal, amikor majd megkérik?

Ha kőfal, ezüstpalotát építünk rajta, ha pedig ajtó, elzárjuk cédrusdeszkával.

Ha ő kőfal, építünk azon ezüstből palotát; ha pedig ajtó ő, elrekesztjük őt czédrus-deszkával.

If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.

Kőfal vagyok, melleim, mint a tornyok, de akkor olyan leszek őelőtte, mint aki békességet talált.

Szőlője volt Salamonnak Baal-Hámónban, őrökre bízta, és mindegyikük ezer sékelt hozott annak gyümölcséért.

Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.

Az én szőlőmre nekem lesz gondom. Az ezer sékel, Salamon, legyen a tied, kétszáz pedig a termés őrzőié.

Az én szőlőmre, mely én reám néz, nékem gondom lesz: az ezer [siklus,] Salamon, tiéd legyen, a kétszáz annak gyümölcsének őrizőié.

My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

Via mea, care este a mea, o păstrez eu. Ţine-ţi, Solomoane, cei o mie de sicli, şi două sute fie celor ce păzesc rodul! –

Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.

Tu, care locuieşti în grădini, nişte prieteni îşi pleacă urechea la glasul tău: binevoieşte şi fă-mă să-l aud! –

Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.
